Just to re-cap, I had a whipple stage 2 kit installed on my Raptor. Additionally I went with stainless power headers, off road y pipe and ATI 12% overdrive pulley.

While doing this draggy pull, the motor let go. Sent a couple of rods out the side of the block.

I should have taken pictures of the short block after tear down, but didn't want to bother my shop doing the work. Basically the pistons looked great with no signs of detonation. We're thinking the rods just let go.

Moving forward, I ordered a lower (9.5:1) compression short block from MMR. Since my cylinder heads were trashed, I also ordered new Ford cores and had them ported by Greg Good here in Houston. The cams were in good shape and I did not want to reduce idle quality, so we re-used these. We picked up 20whp from the old setup to bring us to 618. This seems about right for a drop in compression, and the head porting.

Where we sit currently is a running truck, but really poor part throttle drivability. It surges violently at 40-80% throttle positions. I did some research on here and heard some people talk about the Whipple throttle body causing this. I tested a stock GT500 throttle body with no improvement. Went back to the whipple unit.

Next month, I am getting the truck tuned by a different tuner to see if we can fix the surging. Since I'm paying for a new tune, we are dropping from a 3.250 upper to a 3.0. We'll see what happens.

On an unrelated note, I have OEM Fox front shocks, UCA's, Lower ball joints, sway bar end links and tires on order. I also got a new JLT catch can and bed cover that I'm pretty happy with.

Got the tires in. Factory 315/70/17 sizing and even got the spare. Waiting on suspension parts to put those on. The JLT catch can is so much nicer than my hobbled together leaky Chinese attempt. 10/10 recommend. I forgot about the speaker upgrade. They sound better than the blown stockers though I'm not really much of an audiophile. The truxedo roll up tonneau is perhaps my favorite addition. Very low profile and easy to use. Lastly, I ordered the Forged Offroad IWE lines in an attempt to remedy my vacuum/boost bypass surge problems. I'll install those this weekend.

Dang, would of like to of seen the carnage! Nice build!
It's more depressing than anything. I think 2 or 3 pistons were gone and even the Whipple was trashed. Had to get a new head unit.
Sounds like not only did you blow your engine but also blew everything out of your wallet! Ouch!
Pretty much. I'm trying to save some bucks where I can. I keep telling myself it's cheaper than jumping ship and buying a TRX. Cumulatively, I'm not even sure that's true anymore. It's a forever truck at this point. I'm not complaining.

That was how I felt with my old stang, too far in it to stop now! It's one of those "hard swallow" moments.
