GEN 2 Black lug nuts

I had my wheels rotated every 5k and had a flat today. My 21mm socket would not fit any of the factory lugs. I had to drive the socket onto the nuts with a hammer borrowed from a nice stranger. It was a pain in the ass. I stopped by the shop that rotates my tires and the manager tells me it's a common problem and they usually alert the customer when they start getting swollen. Well, they didn't alert me! Anyway, I like the black factory type from Gorilla, but I haven't decided between the all locking or all standard hex. I'm afraid the all locking will become a problem with the key wearing out or some such nonsense. I never liked the look of the longer Gorilla locks I have now (one per wheel) with the factory lug nuts.

I will still be having a shop rotate the tires, i expect, so should I forgo the locking lugs to avoid a problem down the road?

I want to replace my lugnuts- for the love of god what is the ******** size of the lugnuts!!!!!! Not the studs, not the socket w/ which I’d remove them w/ I mean the size of the actual lug nuts!?!? Is is it M14x1.5??!

I wanted to go w/ Mcgard b/c I had them on my winter wheels on my last GM
Truck & despite 3 New England salty winters they didn’t rust or get scratched up at all (& they’re guaranteed not to)

Better question....I’m just going to assume you had a flat in the rear? Because from what I can tell there’s no way you’re getting the front end high enough off the ground to change a tire w/ the supplied emergency jack - hell or w/ a Pittsburg 3 ton jack w/ 19.7” height- correct? I am debating buying an expensive pro eagle jack just so I’m not stranded on the road should I get a puncture in a front tire

My flat was on the back, and the lugnuts are 14 x 1.5.

I also just changed the lugs and I am attaching a couple of pics. I was in a hurry and the wheels are dirty (sorry). These are Gorilla locking lugs with the factory type wide bearing surfaces.

Regarding your last question, that factory jack will raise the front enough for the front tire to clear. My floor jack that I've had for years won't raise high enough, and I'm thinking about getting another one that will. if memory serves, the height to the bottom of the frame sitting on a jackstand was about 19 1/2 inches, so I would need about 22" to be sure.

i threw a bottle jack with bottle jack extenders from safe jack as much more compact and for $130 total. i might upgrade to a pro eagle in the future but i can't remember the last time i didnt just drive on the “flat” to get it fixed. ill be sure to get some fix a flat also just in case. would rather change it at a gas station than by the side of a busy freeway

were you able to the flat patched?

1. Fit both Methods and OEM bead locks
2. Are black
3. Are not Gorilla, the last set rusted up in about 20 minutes here in New England
4. Preferably hex drive not splined
5. Locking not required
6. Gen 2 thread (obviously)

Does such a beast exist?

Yes. And I would’ve purchased them myself already if someone could PLEASE verify what size(s) work on OEM headlocks. I wouldn’t mind a slightly longer lug nut.

As far as quality goes I can 100% recommend Mcgard black lug nuts as the ones you’re looking for b/c I ran them on my GMC’s winter tire setup for 3 consecutive seasons in MA & they did not rust...sometimes I’d see some rusty dust on them but always washed off I think I was seeing the brake disc rust settle on them after a drive.

I will say the inside of the locking lugnut can develop some rust just b/c of the key roughing up the inside of the lock fitting - but - the Mcgard kit includes a nice black vinyl/rubber type cover that fits over the locking lug exactly for this reason- in fact now that I think of it road salt probably gets inside & eats away & that may be why I saw a little on the locking ones.

Mechanic lost 2 of em on me & I didn’t replace for a year.

So I guess only recommendation is make sure you remove the key covers ahead of time when getting work done so they don’t go missing.

Now confirm for me what sizes will work will be all set lol

Yes sir. I'm patched and back in business. Just needed a 3lb hammer to drive the socket on each lug for removal.
I have dynabeads in my tires and I was a little worried the beads would stick to the area where glue is applied and not fully covered by the patch, but it wasn't a problem.

Badgertits, I already responded to your size question. 14 x 1.5 fits the factory beadlocks, at least they fit my factory beadlocks on a 2017 Raptor. If you want longer you could go with a longer lugnut. I don't care for having them protrude farther than needed but that's personal preference.

Lol thanks I must not have checked - that’s the size I thought but when doing google search got mixed results.

The Mcgards are great. That’s what I’ll get.
