The camera is in the left side of the Center stack. The other 2 are IR Led so they can see you in the dark.

Interestingly enough, the IR sets off my laser warning on my radar detector. kind of annoying

I skipped a lot of the pages on this so I might be repeating something already said. Wouldn’t the 2 minute loop recording be in case of an accident it’s “saved” to see if the driver was distracted, cell phone, eating, road rage etc. it could be used for litigation. But I see that being the only reason of a video or pic capture, since “black box” is recording everything before an impact, speed, direction, braking, airbags, etc.

The main reasons is for blues clues, so that the automated driving can confirm that your paying attention, hands on wheel. It may be used for accident information, but that was not the justification for putting it there.

And with the exception of phone use, I don't think distraction, etc are crimes. I mean, if someone runs a red light, rear ends you, etc, it does not matter if I was eating or anything like that. In the same manner, 'but I was paying attention' isn't a defense for running a red light or rear ending someone.

I would think your only real concern is if you are a booger eater after picking your nose. Or a flicker who flicks it out the window or on the floor mat. Or a wiper, who wipes it under the seat.

I can’t speak for all states, but this is the case in mine. Most states generally follow the same pattern when it comes to issues like distracted driving.

The distraction may have contributed to the collision, which is why there are boxes for distractions on crash reports, but the collision itself can (almost) always be attributed to a violation of the motor vehicle code (improper lane use, unable to stop in a clear assured distance, etc.)

Speaking from much experience, and still active…

Every electronic device made these days is actively spying. I promise you. Even your TV, your power tools with Bluetooth, your Apple Watch, your Ring or Nest cameras and thermostats…

Companies learned from G00gle and Fackb00k long ago that they should be spying as much as possible and saving all that data. It is sold, eagerly, to a couple of 3LA (three-letter agencies) that hold the keys to the gate for most intelligence to the tune of billions. Powerful AI continuously processes it, just waiting for the 3LA to run whatever algorithms they want and give them the information they want right to their fingertips. Who pays for these billions of dollars to be spent in purchasing personal data? We do!…with our hard-earned tax dollars.

Yes, it’s wrong. And Im staunchly against it. This is a discussion outside the realm of this forum, but it’s not even a close debate that your truck (and other devices) are spying on you.

The real concern is that they have invaded your privacy and can do what they will with it. Worse: they can inject false evidence through the same means they extract your personal info. This has been done a gross amount already.

That camera will be used to show you were, let’s say, changing a radio station instead of watching the traffic light, suddenly stop short for the impending red, supporting a charge deliberately stopping your vehicle to cause a collision. if you’re involved in a collision where something more than a citation conviction is wanted/needed, the EDR and anything else gets impounded and taken into evidence.


Well, to be fair, private companies aren’t bound by the bill of rights, only the Federal government is, and the state is bound to most of it. The real issue to me is the ownership of the EDR.

This is incorrect. It's called expectation of privacy, and it is slowly being diminished more and more by arguments like this. Courts have already established case law on all of this. If law-enforcement and intelligence agencies aren't allowed to pry into areas where you inherently have an expectation of privacy, then money-making corporations do not as well unless it is provided as a "service" to you and kept within yours and their custody. None of this is being kept that way.

What's crazy to me is that the cop on here is trying to expose the invasion of privacy and telling everyone what these cameras are really used for, and everyone else is making an argument against it - placing a tinfoil hat on the cop. Who do you think actually has more experience with this technology and how it's used?

One thing I've learned in life- most people are just not that smart. They aren't mean or bad people, they are just dumb. "You can't fix stupid" is not just a saying. They like to drink and **** and that's about the extent of their thoughts nearly all of the time.
