I’m going to buy a 1UP for my Surly fat bike and the wife’s bike. I figure it will fit my truck or her SUV and there is no way my 5’2” tall wife could get a bike off the top of the Diamondback tonneau cover.

I've got a basically brand new 1Up rack for sale if anyone is interested. It's the black 2-bike version. Absolutely bullet-proof rack that will last a lifetime.

Undercover Ridgelander with 2 Rhino-Rack bike mounts an X-Tray that has 2 additional front-fork mounts.

For short trips, I can just throw the kids bikes under the cover, but for long trips it's great to throw 4 bikes on the roof and leave plenty of room for storage. This is a great cover, although its a bit heavy and removing it is a bit of a chore.

How much did that run you on top of the tonneau cover? Thinking about going this route.
This is my setup as well. Yakima crossbars with locks, landing pads, and towers was about $600. Spoke with the folks at Retrax and their engineers said that Yakima fits best in the rails in their opinion. I see that the Yakima High Road that holds the bike on the rails is discounted right now to $200 but you almost can’t find them due to COVID. Good luck!

Based on all of the excellent reviews on many of the bike forums, I was considering the 1UP for my two e-bikes. They each weigh 49 lbs and I wanted a rack strong enough to carry both on the back. We had the bike shop add full-size polycarbonate fenders to our Aventon Pace bikes, so the 1UP was no longer an option due to the way it holds the bikes by pressing down on the tires.

For bikes with fenders, the best option I found was the Kuat NV 2.0. It uses a single padded arm which holds the bike by the front tire or top bar with a heavy duty strap for the rear tire. The bikes are very easy to load with a single person, so I can do it myself while my wife packs the rest of the truck. When mounted, the tires are higher than the rear exhaust on our trucks. It has been rock solid on the trips we have taken and I recommend it for those where the 1UP will not work.

I also read about the wheel melting so at the end of one of my longer trips, I checked the wheels on the bike closest to the tailgate and they were not any hotter than the rest of the bike.

Seems like all bikes would be at risk because the rubber tires would melt before the carbon rims. I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with melted tires, so you're good to go!

Well, if a tire melts, you say "Oops". When a carbon-fiber rim melts, the language gets a lot more colorful...

I'm assuming that you're talking about racks that are mounted to the the bumper of the trucks.
I have my racks mounted to the bed cover. Also I tell people that I lost the keys to remove the racks so that I don't have to haul things around for people.

This Kuat NV 2.0 base is decent. Kind of depends on what type of bikes you are transporting.

My previous rack was the Saris MTR which is similar to the 1up racks. Overall much more versatile, but heavier and bulkier.

Thule. I had no issues even before I installed the dump exhaust
