Im definitely a newb to offroading. Spent a good amount of time in the woods and camp quite a bit but its always backpacking on foot.
Are there any good online resources to seek out new trails, BLM trails, fire trails, etc? Moved to Colorado about 4 months ago. Want to take full advantage of the outdoors here. I'd really like to figure out some good trails to get take the lady out on so we can camp overnight. Not really sure how to start to be honest
Any help is very much appreciated.
We have been members of the Mile Hi Jeep Club since we moved here about 6 years ago and learned the trails running with the club in the beginning. I would strongly recommend keeping this book in your truck as you travel around the state as a quick reference and for planning trips. Fairly accurate descriptions of the trails and the ratings are probably accurate with a moderately capable 4x4 and likely and little conservative for a built trail rig. We run a lifted JKU Rubicon Hard Rock on 35s.

For real time navigation, I prefer OnX and it is worth the subscription price in my opinion if you are going to venture out alone or with a small group that is not familiar with the terrain. You can save the maps for the area and your planned runs so that you have them should you lose mobile connection... which will be most of the time on remote trails systems. It is also Android Auto capable so you can track the map on your new big screen.
General rule of thumb is to be prepared for any sort of weather even in the middle of the year. We keep recovery and survival gear in every vehicle as well as HAM and GMRS. I also have repeater list in the event that I need to hit a repeater.
Keep the contact info for Colorado 4X4 Rescue and Recover group available. Great group and even the most experienced wheelers can get into trouble on our terrain.
