3. It doesn't cover up the rear window if I just need to fold it open.

What tonneau cover obstructs the back window when folded open? The MX4 actually obstructs less when folded open (not up) than the extang does because it's thinner.

In terms of removal, imo the extang and MX4 are just as easy to pull completely off. Each have a hand knob on either bed side that just needs to be undone. The MX4 might be slightly more complex here since it requires removing a bolt instead of just loosening the knob. But it's an addition of a minute or two to the process, so not terribly notable.

BakFlips can. They tell you in their video that those locking rods are there to use to drive with it fully up at highway speeds. Plus, it a track system and really isn't an easy removable tonneau like the Extang.

Understood, but please re-read my post. I said open, not up. The MX4 when folded open obstructs less (albeit not by much) than the extang in the exact same position.

Folding the MX4 up against the window is a feature the extang simply doesn't offer. When I want to utilize the last third of the bed with the extang, I need to pull it completely off. Whereas with the MX4, I can simply fold it up.

I also see no need to ever remove the tracks/rails unless you were completely replacing the cover. So the difficulty of their removal shouldn't be a consideration.

Hey guys...suggestions...I just bought a 10ft Kayak and looking for best way to haul it in back of my Raptor...I have a LoMax Tonneau cover (tri fold, similar to BakFlip)...and also have the Ford bed extenders....Brought it home with cover flipped back to middle and rested it on top of bed extender, secured with bungee cords...Was wondering if anyone knows of a Rack that would go on TOP of the cover...or in the bed for a more secure way of carrying it..like the THULE products....have not been able to find anything and was thinking a tailgate extender that goes in the hitch...
Anyone hauling Kayaks or Canoes...?

Had an Extang Trifold on my Gen1. It worked adequately - wasn't very waterproof, was easy to remove and kept stuff secure inside. Since it sat on top, it caused the bed caps to chafe the paint on the rear quarters and Ford wouldn't cover it; blaming the aftermarket tonneau. So with the Gen 2 - I went with the Bakflip MX4 on the Gen2 - didn't want anything sitting on the caps again. I like it - it is definitely more waterproof, I don't need to remove the cover as much since it folds up to the window and I like the pull cables on either side over the latches the extang had that I had to go to both sides for.

Unfortunately, nothing works with the Bak covers to go on top of them since they fold up to open. So you couldn’t open the cover with cross-bars installed.

Retractable covers will work because you can open the cover without interfering with the rails, but you do have the canister in the bed.

The Retrax XR or Pace Edwards UltraGroove series covers would work for you and allow to use Thule or Yakima bars to mount your kayak. Happy to go over options and pricing with you on those if you’re interested.
