Hello,

I bought a 800a raptor and wanted to add remote start/keyless entry for the winter. Anyone suggest the best system to add, or maybe have a list of 3 top models?

Thanks!

You basically have two choices that I know of. The Viper system which you should be able to find a local Viper dealer installer as they are all over. I put a Viper system in my wife's car but the only local shop in my area were terrible, did not want them touching my Raptor. Viper does have a more feature rich offering and would prefer theirs if it wasn't for the local company.

I went with the Ford Security System but I have the 801A package. That might make a difference so you might have to check that out, might be one more part but I just don't know.
This might help: http://www.paulmachenry.com/documents/Hero Cards/FORD RMST Apps.pdf

Here is what I purchased. It works great as the keyfob sucks but it is limited on what it can do. It does take on the 3yr/36m warranty if installed at time of purchase.

REQUIRED:
Remote Access | The Official Site for Ford Custom Accessories
Vehicle Security System | The Official Site for Ford Custom Accessories

OPTIONAL (I got this too):
Vehicle Security System - Optional LED Kit | The Official Site for Ford Custom Accessories

A Ford dealer has to activate it and it cost $50 a year. It cost me $100 to install at the dealer and I installed the flasher LED myself afterwards.

EDIT: Oh and there are numerous keyfob solutions from Ford and Viper too, if you don't want Smart Phone functionality but those work on proximity within a range. The one that comes with the 801A package keyfob sucks in my opinion, hence why I upgraded.

it all depends on what other options you want. i personally have the viper5904 with smartstart gps ad a few other add on features. window automation, power tailgate, tailgate lock, tilt sensor, backup battery, etc. are you looking for extended range? smart phone capability? any add on features you thinking about?

I really like the idea of doing remote start from a smartphone. I live in Michigan so the winters here are pretty rough.

One thing to add, for either Ford or Viper (Noah can confirm). Your truck will need to be in an area that has cellular coverage. Your smartphone sends the signal via the app over data (Internet) and then they send the commands to your truck via cell signal. If you are out of coverage, it will return a communication error.

correct. for smartphone capability you need to be in cell range. the viper however has up to a 1 mile range, so if you are up in the mountains away from service, you can still activate your truck from a far distance

I ordered a viper system from Noah after doing a lot of research. I wanted remote start and gps tracking and this was the most convenient way to skin both cats.

by the way, yours shipped today.

with the correct components, the viper system has a seamless integration with the oem keyless. but you also get a fancy color remote
