not to swipe the thread, but what kind of gas mileage are you all getting with different octanes? in ca we have 87, 89, 91 and how does it run with the different types of gas?

you can run e85 in anything assuming you have the tuning (and 25% larger fuel delivery) for it. There are no differences in engines or fuel hoses.

On another note i haven't run anything but 87 and I haven't been on the highway or over 45mph once with it in the last month and i've averaged 12.7mpg all around town driving very short trips with a cold motor/trans. I don't think you can beat that.

93 only...I want every drop of performance I can get.

Not sure why anyone would spend $50k on a Raptor and then run 87 fuel to save $5 per fill up, IMO.

I haul fuel and I'm more than happy to sale you want ever you want to run in your truck but high octane fuel doesn't equate to better performance. In fact, running high octane fuel in a vehicle designed to run low octane fuel can actually hurt the performance of said vehicle as well as fuel economy. Trucks with performance tunes not with standing.

Now with that said, I feed my truck either one.

Agreed. But I have the 5 star tune for 93.

Futhermore, 93 is much cleaner than 87.

I remember one time a few years back when I was filling my Hog with 87, some gas spilled on the tank and it had a bunch of tiny particles in it, I was like WTF??

My understanding is Premium (93) is filtered twice and then Octane is added.

P.S. and running lower Octane is just as bad (87 with no tune is not a good thing)

Refineries run filters as well as the tankers them selves and the only difference between 87 and 93 is the additives. The product comes from the same source and the additives is mixed on the rack...which both receives detergents for cleaner emissions. The idea behind high octane is for engines that need slower burning fuel aka high compression. You're also dealing with attitude factors. Attitude effects the air/fuel ratio on a vehicle. Modern vehicles are easily adaptable to changing environment due to computers. This is where the extra power comes in from aftermarket tunes. Your avaverage vehicle is tuned a little on the fat side so the vehicle can be driven all over the country without concerns of running lean but that another story.

Anyhow, it' my opinion that people should b mor concerned about th additive used in the fuel. Quality product can help prevent damag to an engine over time while a lack of quality product could shorten it's life span.
