I think its more of a double edged sword. On one side you get good testing to see what might and might not work but then on the other you get an incredibly harsh environment that will most likely break something no matter what.

I hope we get some updates soon at least...or maybe a video from when the truck was running yesterday.

Agreed. I'm just a little peasant. Foutz and Ford have way more knowledge and insight. It just seems that something is bound to break and from what I've seen from the marketing material the goal was to prove its up to the task of completing a race. 0-1 now with 2 races left on their schedule.

Disregarding my earlier post to the contrary, I wonder if the overheating could be at least partly due to the knock on affects of having blocked so much of the airflow to the intercooler with the lights.

I'm curious - how susceptible are radiators to getting blocked with sand in these races?

absolutely you guys are 100 % correct that was my point with trophy trucks these are purpose built trucks that are very expensive. I applaud ford for being out there.
as for the turbo stuff that was my biggest concern when they announced that the eco boost is going into the raptor. forced induction affects engine longevity even at mild boost

Its really hard to think the Ecoboost is 100% to blame seeing is how they have 24h ecoboosts having zero issues and hundreds of thousands of ecoboosts on the road right now not having issues. Im also sure they have this new ecoboost in test trucks with thousands of miles on them already with probably no issues. The 2017 Raptor Race truck here went what, less than 200 miles and it broke?
I really hope its a fluke or something small because if its not thats not a good look for this new motor.

Hopefully we will get an update soon so we can all stop speculating. And I still stand by my previous statement, Im glad it broke, now I just want to know why and how.

oh yes you are only part correct notice 24 hour race was at daytona all eco on street etc not HOT VEGAS full of dust (maybe evening following another truck getting even more dust into grill/face then also going 10 miles over a washboard forrest road rattles my teeth can you imagine what these guys are running???? this is not a race track setting

don't get me wrong I want them to win and bring me on board with the eco boost but right now it is not test proven and they are not giving us an option of another engine. when the raptor first came out with the 5.4 it was not strong enough so hence the 6.2. so how many 5.4 owners out there would like to switch to the 6.2??

That's not what happened. The 6.2 was the only engine planned for the Raptor but the tuning wasn't locked in so the truck was released with the 5.4 to get the truck on the street. It had nothing to do with the strength of the 5.4.

At least both of those trucks were V8's. Not an excessively long learning curve to run one over the other. The V6TT is a great engine and no doubt they will get an option figured out that will work. But without a ton of testing and research, the V6TT is going to take a lot more to get right than the NA V8's are. I still feel that both engines should be offered. One for the highway guys, one for the off road guys. At least until they get all the V6TT stuff figured out......

It's the dust, creosote bushes and general lack of airflow under heavy load that gets ya. I saw video of a buggy with creosote bush literally on every vertical surface as if he hit a wall made of creosote. It was everywhere! Parker is just a monster, like the Daytona of desert racing. Big rocks, huge drops, make one mistake and its kaputski.

Let's give the team a week to debug, they'll be back for another run at Parker in sept, right?
