Ok people, its getting old. He asked a question, thats all. As fas as I know, rifles arent legal but shotguns are. Dont shoot the turtles. I dont thinkhaving a gun or two out there would be a bad idea anyway (the hills do have eyes!) and its better he ask the group he is going with than guess and show up with a illegal firearm.

Instead of "guessing" or "doubting" or "thinking" why not do the RESEARCH and get the correct answer. Relying on "asking the group" vs. finding the correct answer could mean the difference between a felony and a fun trip. The "group" is not going to fund an attorney if something happens, are they?

There has been a lot of armchair posturing on this thread. It does no good for anyone who wants to be LEGAL and UNDERSTAND where you can legally shoot a firearm (especially in a large group where you may not know anyone)

Here is a link to help educate yourself on this topic instead of all the anecdotal bull**** going back and forth.

There are a whole bunch of informational topics that link to credible government citations on the law regarding firearms specifically on the topic that was brought up.

Remember, I never said it was legal or illegal, I'm simply suggesting doing the due diligence here vs. relying on "the group" for something nobody here has stated with absolute crystal clear facts whether or not it's legal or illegal.

Bent, it's not about whether or not it's a good idea to have "a gun or two out there". Nor is it about "showing up with an illegal firearm". No one knows what he might or might not bring or if it's legal in the State of Kalifornia.

The issue is whether or not it's a good idea to TALK about carrying a gun on that trip.

And talking about the issue and ensuring you're not hassled by the law on a trip and taking care to avoid a situation where you could go to jail is far better than worrying about hurting a stranger's feelings on the internet.

I don't know what internet some of you have been on these past years but, "maybe we should chug on over to namby pamby land where we could find some self-confidence." Sheesh!

If you want to have a discussion on California gun law, dos and donts when on the trail, discussion about discussions, whatever... do so in the proper section. Not here. Enough is enough.
