Paul. Is there a difference, other than physical size, between a Squadron Racer and an XL Racer? According to the website they have the same lumens and power draw.
The main difference is the size of the housing. The Squadron series is a 3" x 3" and the XL series a 4.5" x 4.5". They both use the same dome-less LED which explains the same lumen count and power draw. Since the XL series is bigger, we fit a reflector that's about double the size in width and depth. This translates into better long range distance and casts a tighter, concentrated pencil beam. But the Racer series is only recommended for high speeds of over 75mph+. If you think about it, at those speeds your peripheral vision is blurred and your staring completely straight anticipating what's in front of you. If you can fit the XL series, it will be better than the Squadron series. Good question!
