When watching the video on the Upfitter Switches - What is he referring to Soldering things together?

If I'm understanding correctly, You have to add the extra wires to bring them out the firewall?

I'm loving this idea but VERY nervous about setting it all up. I want to hook up to the AUX switch but that's where the majority of the hesitation comes in...

Just did mine last week.

Each aux switch has a hot lead that bluntly terminates under the glove compartment on the inside of the cabin. So, there are 4 wires of varying gauge...one for each aux switch. Also terminated in the same location (under the glove box) are four wires that go through the firewall and are bluntly terminated in the engine box.

So, you can solder each hot lead from the aux switches to their own wire that already pass through the firewall. Voila...all of your hot leads from the aux switches now go through the firewall and terminate in the engine compartment. I went ahead and soldered all four of mine even though I'm only using one at the moment.

Ironman's video above is priceless. Once you start ripping things apart, it will make sense to you.

Thank you for that explanation! It's funny; after reading all of the different thoughts and explanations, it only takes one stated the right way to make sense.

Now before everyone else calls me a moron, I know, now that it clicked because of PHYGUY; everyone else's statements make perfect sense!

Thanx!!!

Now the question is for the E L Tape, do I assume that you can use Aux #4 as it doesn't need a large fuse to operate?

That seems to be the general consensus around here...unless you have plans for a modification that takes even less amperage...

Thanx. I want EL Tape, lightbar around license plate (seen it somewhere on here) or racing bar w/ piaa 525s x 4. That's it till someone comes out with something cool.

:)

Why they never made those connections for us we will never know ? The leads in the engine are sealed so there's no reason not to.

Good explanation PHYGUY, and Im sure its been said somewhere, maybe in irons vid, but if you reach in and cut some of the electrical tape holding the wire harness together it makes it much easier to get the wires closer to the side vent to solder them together.

Like he said too, if you in there just make all the connections at the same time and you can lable which wire is which switch under the hood for the future. Ive been in there 4 times, lol.

Talk about the most retarded shit ever. I mean, it would be so simple for them to connect it. WTF.

Do you have to solder the wires for the connection or can you use those connecters that you have to crimp?

i.e. one of these doohickies

Soldering is your best connection but a crimp style connector should be fine. Or you could just wrap them together and put some electrical tape around it like I did for years before actually buying a solder gun, lol.

I didn't want to cut the tape holding the loom of wires together. So, I just pulled the wires I needed out of the loom. They will slide right out under that electrical tape.

I imagine they left them disconnected because someone would bitch that they were already connected if Ford had made them on continuous wire. :)

But, maybe there are auxiliary mods you would want to add inside the cabin? Remote controlled, moonroof telescoping 50 Cal machine gun pack?
