B&O Unleashed

Assuming that the Gen 3 Raptor will have the same audio options as the MY21 F150, was curious to know if of the forum member audio professionals and enthusiasts have a gotten a look and listen at both versions of B&O? The regular version and the unleashed version.

Is the speaker quality improved?

Is it possible/difficult to replace the speakers in the ceiling, head rest, etc?

Is a NAVTV still required if you add your own DSP and amp?

Do we know if the system is still setup to send less power to the sub at higher volumes?

Do all the additional speakers add value when the sources is still 2 channel?

I am pretty illiterate when it comes to audio tech and have no answers for any of the above questions. But I can say I have driven a 2021 Platinum with the unleashed and it sounds much much better than the B&O in my dad's 2020 Raptor. I've heard that a higher quantity of speakers make a lesser quality sound system sound better though.

My guess is that the speakers in the headliner would not be fun to replace. Headliners always suck to tinker with.

The very low 12w a channel from the stock sony amp with B&O processing is what makes the stock B&O system sound like trash. Contrary to what most people think......too much power is not what kills speakers, too little power is what kills speakers.

In fact, you can almost never have too mch power (within reason).

So....."unleashed" will probably just be a new tune to the same ****** system. Yes you will need nav-tv and your own amp.

Ford replaced Sony with B&O in 2018...are you saying that the B&O Amp uses Sony components?

THAT is correct.

It is B&O in name only and maybe some tuning. The AMp still has the Sony sticker on it. And the speakers are basic FOMOCO paper cones.

B&O is just marketing and some tuing...thats it.

For a factory set up....overkill...BUT...since they tend to use small amplifiers, you can get better low volume sound with just sure number of drivers. 3 way separates in each door = 12 speakers. 2 way center = 14 2 subs = 16...then i guess they are adding overhead like an ATMOS set up 2 = 18.

If someone was going to build a moderate system from scratch, they would never have 18 speakers.10-12 is plenty.

I don't think it's 3 way in the door...is it 2 (8)? There are a pair of speakers in the front head rests (4), A pillars (2), center (2), ceiling (2)...plus 2 subs? 8+4+2+2+2+2 = 18?

we havent had one come through the shop yet, but im guessing its just the added speakers and some "tuning" as well. definitely dont need that many speakers, however european manufacturers have been doing it for years. they have speakers everywhere. doesnt make the sound system necessarliy better, but give "more" of the sound. keep in mind the automotive industry is about 4-5 years behind when it comes to audio.

Interesting; all of the ones I have seen have the embossed B&O logo. Was the Sony sticker on the inside? The Sony branded amp looks much different.
