Axle hop explaination and a cheap cure

Elgin spring co., ask for Joe. But maybe try somewhere else really. I don't know. I told the guy that worked on my truck before he started that anything above and beyond that it would need weather It be bushings, fresh paint, etc to go ahead and do it and I would pay whatever extra. I also said something about how the OP had beveled the top edge of the new spring which I liked.

When I looked at the new spring the edges are not beveled, it could use a painting and I am pretty sure that I didn't get new U-bolts, which I thought was bad thing to do.

We'll have to see how it works, I still would say that I AM happy with results for what I paid. I'm just alittle **** and don't mind paying for somebody to work on it that is too.

Your suppose to get new U- bolts since the old ones were already torqed to 90% yield strength.

That being said, many people reuse the U-bolts. After a few days check the torque on them. You'll see that they are a bit loose.

Glad your happy going this route. Let us know how it tows and how much the back dips in the back.

I think I'm going to have to get a quote here in Houston to get this done. I run 99% of the time with an empty bed, even off-road. I'll probably have them remove the second leaf and just replace it with a longer one to help with the axle hop.

Or what are y'alls thoughts on putting in the new secondary leaf, leaving the current second (now third) leaf in, and running a 2" drop shackle in the rear? That should negate any height gains from this, correct? And if it ever sags, you could take out the shackle and have your height back.

You need to go to top perch now.

You would need to take the shock off the truck to adjust to top perch. Can't compress the spring far enough on the truck. Might be faster now than messing with the stripped set screw.

Can you "add a leaf" from a stock leaf pack? I have a new leaf pack and wanted to see if i could do something with it.

This axle hop is driving me so crazy I can't believe there's not a recall or TSB. Maybe it's just me. I'm very picky and easily annoyed by little things like that.

axle hop is a normal in many vehicles. there has and never will be a TSB or recall for axle hop. most average drivers on the road will never even know their car/truck has it because they dont drive it hard ever.

the Raptor is just about a perfect recipe for axle wrap. we have a soft rear suspension and good low end torque. throw some aftermarket progressive springs on and it will be gone and u will have a better ride as well as better offroad handling
