Yeah sometimes the console app will go buggy and you will need to force quit it. Also, sometimes carplay will bug it out and make the screen black, just unplug the phone (or wireless dongle is you use one like I do) and it will fix itself. This actually happened with the OEM unit in too.

With the android 13 this is not possible, this is because of the audio issues it causes on android 11. The original sync is still used for the audio which is why if it is in spiltscreen no audio would output sometime and sometimes the sync will output.

In case anyone is looking to update the firmware:

Before the update, please prepare the following: (Caution: During the update process, the unit cannot be turned off, the car cannot be reversed)



Update Procedure:

1) A USB 2.0 Flash Drive with 8GB/16GB

2) Use a PC computer to format the USB to FAT32 format.

3) Download the update file from the link provided and copy to the USB Flash Drive. No need to unzip or extract the file

4) Turn on the engine of the vehicle and make sure the system is on.

5) Insert the USB to the one of the USB ports from the screen (Not the one from the original system under the center console)

6) Follow the instructions on the screen and update the system.

After the update or factor reset, if your original camera is not working. Please follow the steps below:

(Note: This settings ONLY applies to Ford SYNC 2/3, and Silverado series, for all other models, please leave it with CVBS setting.)



1) Go to setting - System - Factory Setting (Password: 7890 / 666888)

2) Go to Reversing Camera Format

3) Select VGA

4) Click "Save and Reboot"

Split Screen appears to be a problem with Android 13. Apparently they changed the function from the “long click on the app button” to a “swipe gesture” as an improvement???

I use Shortcut Maker and it’s split screen option to make a shortcut for the Home Screen that splits Waze to top and Console to the bottom. I love this setup.

I am trying to figure out a way to auto launch this widget on bootup, but so far I am having no luck. Tried Tasker, MacroDroid, Nova and others but fast boot of the Android head units doesn’t play well with these launchers.

If anyone has any thoughts I would love to get some advice on it.

I recently have begun having an issue where "console/Sync" will flash black where it displays the info/map above the keys and becomes unresponsive. Has anyone else had this issue? I do not think it is a lose connection, seems more like some sort of glitch. Sound stays on and buttons work just the visual display kind of messes up. I've also noticed my rear cam freezing quite a bit lately. I'm probably going to contact autotech since it is under warranty but I'm hoping I don't need to go through the hassle of swapping it out.

I thought it might have been caused by upgrading to the latest firmware but even after rolling it back the issue is still there.

I've noticed it do that on very specific occasions. Usually, it's when I start the truck and throw it in reverse right away. I think, because the screen is then trying to do 3 things at once (boot up android, start Sync, and start the backup camera), it just kinda freaks out. It will play the radio (preset #2), have a black sync screen, and the reverse camera will freeze.

Take note of when it happens again to you. Then the next time, see if it is the same situation. If that's the case, just take an extra 3-5 seconds before throwing the truck into reverse from now on (good thing to do anyways, IMO).

I updated Sync to the latest version yesterday and that seems to have helped. You are probably right, I'm probably not giving it enough time to run through its start up before heading out. I'll see if that helps, if not I'll pull the unit and see if the sync cable is possibly lose (I doubt it though cause like you mentioned the sound continues to run, its like a hiccup in the display driver). Everything else works perfectly fine.

i also used shortcut maker and have done the same with waze on top and console split to the bottom with the new android 13 unit. My issue with doing it this way is that the waze app does not have sound only the sync app does when split. It also looks like nova launcher no longer has the ability to hide the a/c controls like the older units.

Funny part is I didn’t even notice the Waze sound wasn’t working. I think I’m glad for that??? I simply go this route for two reasons - maps are easier to see up high on the screen and the console has a better look when it’s on the lower spilt (doesn’t seem distorted).
