Is the Pop & Lock tailgate lock the forum's "officially" recommended solution as opposed to the Pace Edwards PowerGate?

I just received my PE PowerGate and was about to install when I came across this thread. Not sure if I should just attempt installing the PE Powergate, or send it back and get the Pop & Lock...

I had (and still have it laying in my garage) the PE Powergate, but when i installed it, i noticed that it doesn't work on the key lock, but simply blocks the handle. Major disadvantage is that when the electrical lock doen't work for whatever reason, you will not be able to open your tailgate. This is the reason that i bought and installed the Pop' n Lock.

If you go to Pace Edwards Website it will tell you,

http://www.pace-edwards.com/images/PGApp__PowerGate_.pdf

"POWERGATES NOT FOR USE WITH OE BACK-UP CAMERAS
MOUNTED IN TAILGATE HANDLES"

And it will not bolt on a Raptor's tailgate with the key lock, at least not mine.
They added that after my long tech support with them.

They well take it back great company.

The unit fits inside the tailgate and does not replace the handle it's just a simple bolt-on.

I called their support number this afternoon, and they told me it would work with the OE rear camera...

I'm just going to return it and order the Pop&Lock as that seems to have a very detailed (and successful) install on this forum.

First mod complete! Just installed a Pop & Lock PL8250 on My 2012 Raptor SCrew.
I got nervous when I saw multiple wires of the same color. But I picked one out of the three Grey with Brown Stripe wires and one out of the two Violet with Grey wires and now my tailgate unlocks with my passenger doors. Worked first try. Went with the double press because I figure the solenoid will last longer that way.
Also, I routed my wires down the left left side of the truck since there were a few wire conduits to tie to. Then I simply went between the bed and cab making sure to keep it up off the muffler.
On a Side Note - If you've got the enough, spiral electrical tape around the sheathing to keep the wires from slipping out before you start routing.
Good write up. Thanks much!

One other Note - It's important that you do not crimp the connections at the solenoid until after the install is complete. Like MTF, my wires we're backwards at the tailgate quick disconnect. So if after you've made all your connections and it locks when you attempt to unlock it, just reverse the wires at the solenoid connectors and crimp away. Hope this helps.

Go with the Pop & Lock as opposed to the Pace Edwards - when I did my research the P/E just blocks the handle so the tailgate can not be opened. With the P&L the key still work! Also, Pop & Lock sells the PL8250 on Amazon for around $85.18 with free shipping. :)

I ordered the pop&Lock from Amazon on Wed. Trying to get an RMA to return the PE Powergate to StylinTrucks.com but they are being difficult.

where exactly did you tap into the wires at? And when you say left side, you mean the drivers side? Wasn't sure since then you talked about making sure you routed them away from the muffler.

I'd really like to do this mod.

I just want to be clear!
I had to recrimp the connectors at the wired end not crimp the connectore together.
Those bullet connectors are not meant to be crimped together. I did tape them up!
At least not the kit I received from Pop & Lock directly.

Glad to hear everything works for you.

Have StylinTrucks call Pace Edwards, you might not get the shipping charge back if there was any.
