Are those the old school casinos?

Yeah, Silver Legacy, Harrah's, El Dorado, the ones right in downtown.

Cant promise you Vanilla but put me down for maybe! I gotta see if a friend will go with me. I definitely dont want the parents telling me to slow down the whole time!!

Yeah, I'll e-mail him and get more info for sure. The dude was just spewing out info and directions, directions with just landmarks, and i had a couple glasses of wine so i told him I'll forget all of this and asked for his e-mail address. But he was going on and on about different trails and sites to see.

Sounds good. I have a book that has some ghost towns in it, but sometimes the info is dated so by 2012 the vandals have stolen everything and there's nothing to see.

Hmm... I'm pretty confident in my 1-day desert trip list, but not so much in my high Sierra's list. I'm sure there are far more qualified folks who can help, but in case you're curious, here's what I carry at a minimum for the 1 dayers:

-first aid kit
-full sized spare, aired up
-10 gals of gas
-5 gals of potable water
-hi lift jack (with various accessories including chocks)
-bottle jack with integrated jack stand
-onboard air compressor
-basic tool kit
-recovery strap
-tow strap
-Wyeth Allen More Power Puller (basically a portable winch)
-flashlight
-SPOT locator
-UHF/VHF radio (FRS/GMRS friendly)
-cell phone with downloaded offline ready maps of where ever I plan to be
-hard copy maps of where ever I plan to be
-a decent quality compass
-a full sized shovel
-leather gloves
-and of course, the Zombie Apocalypse Thunder Stick with plenty of ammo

I'm sure there are other odds and ends that find their way on board, but that pretty much defines what I consider a minimal compliment of safety and recovery gear. YMMV.
