I had same issue and my dog likes to stand on it. I went on line and googled arm rest covers. There are a lot of companies that make them specific to the car you have. I wish I could tell you the name of the one I bought but it slips on easily covers the opener and fits like a glove. It is made of neoprene and about an inch thick so also adds just enough padding to the plastic. You can pull it off and wash it and just put it back on. It is black or you can pay extra and have a logo put on it. Sorry do not remember the company name but it is in the list of companies when you google car armrest covers. Guess what I found it here it is works outstanding.

FYI did not mean to say it covers the opener meant to say that it does not cover the opener. This is a big thing as a lot of them are made and they just cover the opener up.

I have the same one, its neoprene and doesn't burn me when I get in a hot truck added bonus that the dog doesn't scratch it all up.

Anyone come across a decent armrest cover that isnt too loose or tacky looking? Assume im not the only one that’s worried how the console rest will wear with time..

Since I sweat like a pig because of my medication there were white stains from the sweat/medication combo I am on. I used Mothers VLR to clean it up and then covered it with this

Lastly due to my back being smoked bending is a real issue, just trying to reach the center of the hood will cause more pain then I really want. This helped out with that problem.
