you'd need an entirely different hardware for wireless CarPlay to work.

This may not be true but cannot validate. Wireless Carplay is nothing more than starting with a bluetooth connection. Once it establishes a connection then it switches to the WIFI hotspot that is setup in the head unit. It then switches off the Bluetooth and all further communication is done over the WIFI network. Since our trucks have WIFI and you can connect to them as a hotspot would suggest it is possible for this to work.
I had a pioneer unit with wireless CarPlay and this was exactly how it worked.. and very well I my might add.

It adds other functionality to CarPlay? I just looked at the screens they list along with the dongle. If so, not sure if that’s good or bad.

Wondering if the 2021’s have wireless carplay? I know they can be had with a wireless charging pad in the cubby compartment. Will we be able to adapt? It’s probably the same part as the Expedition uses.

I read on one of the Kia forums it was working fine, except for phone calls. That with calls there was a delay, and enough to be annoying. Its why I held off as I take a lot of work calls while on the road and cant have that happening.

I have been running this adaptor for the last 6 months...
https://carplay2air.com/

It works well...not perfect but it’s great. 99% of the time it connects on its own, call quality, Siri and everything else CarPlay related works as if it was plugged in.

the times is doesn’t connect it’s because the phone is locked into a previous WiFi ssid. All you need to do is select the adaptors WiFi and Bluetooth (it uses both) or unplug and replug in the adaptor. Adaptor has hardware updated as well, company answers support its all good and was worth the money, IMO.

Supposedly there’s another adaptor on amazon not sure about it but looks similar.
