Folks,

I am assuming that the behavior of Sync3 / Apple CarPlay is the same for everyone ... but in case I am missing something. For me, when I plug in my iPhone and enable CarPlay it basically takes over the display. In other words, I get the App display and can use them etc ... The bummer is that you lose things like the outside temperature or the ability to have a split display. I am assuming this is the norm .. but a bummer IMHO.

I've also had some issues with Apple CarPlay periodically disconnecting itself and dropping calls. This doesn't appear to be an issue when not using CarPlay (no drops/disconnects). Anyone else seeing the same thing?

I love my Raptor, but Sync3 seems marginally better than it's predecessors (which was the only real disappointment I have in my 2013 FX4).

Thanks,

Dave

Search function would have answered all of these.

Ford Connect on your carplay screen will take you back to the home screen.

Apple sucks and everybody has issues with it and Sync 3 interface. Try the manual update.

It really is the nature of what Carplay and Android Auto are desgined to be. That are not add-ons to your existing system, but a complete overlay of the functionality with what Apple or Google think you need to have in your car. It's not going read any data from your truck at all, it's just running off your phone.

if you want to maintain all your truck sync 3 features on screen plus have additional features from your phone, then applink is the way to go. I've used the 'Ford + Alexa' app for this and it works ok, but needs some work. I believe Waze is available for iPhone users. Unfortunately, there isn't much available and working well for this, probably because the market who have sync 3 and want this feature isn't nearly as big as though who want to use carplay or android auto.

It is one or the other, they don't play nice at all.

When using Apple Car Play, all voice stuff is with Siri. The radio (tuner, sirius, and cd) become an app inside car play.

if you want to use sync 3 voice commands, have to not be in car play. they have their trade offs. i have just adjusted and use the siri stuff for everything now.

It's intended to override Sync. An update to Carplay is coming out this fall which will have the split screen for nav and audio. The only thing I don't like about using Carplay is the lack of outside temperature on the display as you noted. I wish Ford had worked it into the main display like they did with the compass. As other have said, you can access the Sync system by using the Ford icon on the carplay home page, but it does suck that you have to leave carplay to see it. I have had zero technical difficulties using it, so I don't buy into the "Apple sucks" crowd.

I have a 19 as well, there's a Sync3 update available that I would apply. There's a setting also in the Sync3 settings to allow CarPlay to connect automatically, for it to connect but not start automatically, or to just ignore CarPlay for a device. Also, as others have said, there's a Ford icon within CarPlay to get out of CarPlay and go back to Sync.

I haven't had call drops or any difference in functionality or capability with carplay on or off, no. CarPlay (and Android Auto) is built around reduction in distractions and simplifying the screen, so it takes over.

My issue is with android, not much available. What really stinks is sync 3 doesn't allow you you to create custom poi's, dual phones on at same time etc, I had a great kenwood system I put in my old f350 2 grand but worth every penny and I could easily create routes on my computer and plug them in, change icons, custom poi's, up to 4 phones would ring or call out ect, but no 360 view. So I guess I have to stick with sync on my 19 raptor, if for no other reason I have to use the 360 view to get in my garage.

For a device or an APP? I had to turn off Carplay once Waze synchronization worked. I can't stand Waze on my main display, I want Waze on my iPhone while plugged in and have messages, etc on carplay. I'll have to check ford owners for an update.

You might be interested in the Phoenix Android 12" screen option. There's a thread in this forum about it. Several of your features are met, some not. I believe you can connect 5 bluetooth devices at a time. You won't lose the 360 view.
