We will start with a meet and greet at the Visitor Center, located at the very end of Palm Dr. around 8:30 am. From there we will head to the “Galleta Meadows Gomphotherium” free standing art structures. Dennis Avery, land owner of Galleta Meadows Estates in Borrego Springs envisioned the idea of adding 'free standing art' to his property with original steel welded sculptures created by 'Perris Jurassic Park' owner/artist/welder Ricardo Breceda based in Perris, California. We will check out the latest sculpture by Harry Jones, a 350-foot serpent straight out of a fantasy novel emerging from the desert along Borrego Springs Road.
After the sculptures, the Explorer group will hit the trails from Borrego Spring through Ocotillo Wells to the Salton Sea. We will explore the desert for most of the day and come back to the town of Borrago Springs. The terrain will be a mixture of fast-moving trails, sandy washes, and rocky terrain… a wide variety of riding to allow you to get a feel for the different off road conditions the Southern California desert has to offer. For those unfamiliar with the Salton Sea area, it is a very unique and sometimes odd landscape filled with many points of interest not to be missed. Unlike an official Raptor Expeditions "Run", this explorer event will be "led" but not "guided" in the traditional R.E. fashion. We encourage feedback and participation from owners, as exploring is the name of the game. A route has been pre-determined, but depending on conditions and driver preference, the route can be altered as we see fit throughout the day.
The explorer run should be concluded around 3:00 PM, this will give you a change to refuel your truck and grab a bit to eat. Those of you who wish to camp overnight will also have time to get settled in for the night before it gets too dark.
For those of you who are interested, we will also host a night run. Once the sun goes down we will head back out to the desert for a night adventure. The night adventure will only be about 3 hours long, and take you on some new and some of the same terrain. This will be a great for the driver unfamiliar with night driving to get acquainted with the mystique of the desert at night. After the night run you will be free to do what you wish, camp for the night, or head home. “Raptor Expeditions: Day in the Dirt” is a great way to learn more about your Ford Raptor, and get your feet wet in a variety of terrain and driving conditions. Its also a good way to get to know fellow Ford Raptor Owners. Feel free to share stories, tips, opinions, what have you with one another. Join us and help our Raptor community grow!
