Is renting the F350 a viable option when you need to tow? The mods you are considering fund quite a few rentals. Then you have the fun truck the other 27 days of the month.

Exactly.

I put 1700 miles on the rented, nearly new, F-350 Crew....all for about $300.00.
To me, that was a steal.

Renting once per month at $300 per time (one weekend) = $3600 per year.

Little more hassle, but certainly an upside too w/ keeping the Raptor for the other 27 days as you indicated.

Still a tough call then. If you don't really take the Raptor offroad (or at least to areas where a Super Duty also wouldn't do okay in) I'd probably trade since you tow so frequently, and the diesel obviously gets better fuel economy in addition to being more stable due to the 3/4 ton suspension.

Me personally since I go to the dunes a few times a year, if I also towed as much as you I'd either step down to a lighter open trailer OR I would bite the bullet, swap the rear springs and also go to the higher load rating BFG's when it needs tires for the first time.

Great advice....never thought about getting higher load rated BFG's.
I don't mind having two sets of wheels/tires.

I'll look into that for sure if I keep the Raptor.
Curious how much that would actually help.

If you don't mind the ride of the F250, get one, they have pretty much the same gadgets. After having the Raptor for several months and driving my partners '18 F250 King Ranch several times, there is zero chance I would give up the ride quality of the Raptor, unless absolutely necessary to move a load on a regular basis. I have owned several duallies and 1 tons. Used them for work when contracting, just not my thing anymore.

How long is your commute? If it's lots of short trips, and you go the diesel route, I'd make sure the F250 you bought had the operator commanded regen option, and maybe the PTC supplemental cab heater too. The diesels take forever to warm up in northern climates.

If you drive short distances on a daily basis, stay away from Diesel or get the option to force a Regen... never fails that it’s always trying to clean as you pull in the garage.

The ecoboost is polarizing and you either are ok with it or not. That affects resale as your buyer base is limited. Resale is ultimately lower than what the typical gen 1 saw.

V6 buyer base limited??? LOL. Ford already sold more V6 Raptors than all 5 years of V8 Raptors combined. And not only has the V6 Raptor sold in greater numbers, it accomplished that feat with an average asking price $20k higher than the Gen 1.

Only grouchy G1 owners still make a big deal about the V6.

As for the Gen 1 resale, that didn't take hold until after the Raptor was discontinued for two years. There are posts on this forum with hundreds of 2013 and 2014 Raptors being sold at invoice. If you can buy new at invoice, why would someone pay up for a used truck? When Ford discontinues the Gen 2 during the next F-150 refresh, expect Gen 2 Raptors to see the same ridiculous resale prices.

if your not off roadinf the super duty 3/4 is agood long lasting truck. The 6.2 motor is also great for most people.

Thanks guys. Appreciate all the good feedback (and lack of PITCHFORKS).

I have a 110 acre hobby farm where I do take this Offroad.

That said, most places a Super Duty could likely get to also.

Just that the Raptor can do it much better when faced w/ adverse conditions (wet, muddy, etc.).

I went from a 2017 KR F250 to a 2018 Raptor recently. Really only used the SuperDuty about once a month for it's "intended purpose", otherwise it was just my daily driver.

My ultimate decision was made in that the comfort I received from the Raptor for 90-95% of the time I was in, and I could figure out how to compensate for the remaining 5-10%. The Raptor is still very capable, it's just not going to carry an entire pallet of corn in the bed like my SuperDuty did.
