For the middle perch, yeah, you can do it on the truck, but we had to take mine out (like sdhq did in the write up) to get to the top perch. Still, it's really not that difficult.

oh ok, i'm planning on the middle perch so i hadn't considered pulling everything apart.

Yeah, at middle perch you can leave it on and be gtg.

Guarantee you you'll love it.... But if not, you can put it back by repeating the same process backwards.

why can't you leave it on for the top perch?

Because the spring compressors don't fit in the wheel well when compressed that far.

You can just make it to the middle perch, but you really have to crank the sonsabitches down to slide the perch up to the top clip. The bolts on the compressors expand too far and you bang in to either the plastic wheel well and/or suspension components, yet you still need to crank the compressors more but can't due to the limited space.

We tried to get away with it on the first one, but once we realized it was a fool's errand we just removed the entire shock, which actually makes the spring compression process much much easier.

Cool - I'm planning to do this later, but want an equal lift for the rear :) I know y'all like that 'front high' stance, but every truck I've had I've lifted the rear at least an inch higher than the front. Performance wise, I've not seen much difference, but being able to see what I'm hitting on the trail has proved to get me stuck a lot less.
I'm entertaining a 4" spring on the rear, with a dropped shock mount. Just have to see if the driveshaft can take it without an extension.

A word of caution - my Raptor came with the premium sound system instead of the Nav, but the sales guy threw the Nav install in with the deal.
So they put in a "Nav" system about 2 months after I got the truck, and while some of the features work and are useful, others don't.
- As much as it says Ford all over it, I overheard the installer say it was an aftermarket model.
- The premium sound system (amp, speakers) was meant to be run from the Sony deck. With the Nav, there is a lot of annoying sound and vocal distortion.
- The rear backup camera cannot (according to the dealer) be hooked to the Nav screen and only shows up in my rear view mirror. This sucks because it was the main reason I wanted the Nav - to see better while in reverse off-roading.

Aside from that, oh, and the travel/traffic features don't work in Canada lol, I do like it and would still recommend it to anyone. The Jukebox is pretty user friendly, and having the actual navigation system located in the dash/console is much better than those people I see driving down the road with a TomTom suction cupped to the front window!

I did some research on this when I was at CES this weekend. I taked with a head guy at www.metradealer.com . He said it was all about the installer. He said there is not a factory system made that they can not duplicate. This company makes the replacement dash plastic, replacment wiring components so when a guy like me has a standard system , he can update to nav using there dash kit, and make everything work including the rear camera on the big screen. He also said Pioneer makes the best nav. Pioneer has the AVIC-Z130BT with voice control and MSRP is $1199. Sounds like I need an installer ;)
