Any chance braking pressure has been altered

This is going to sound completely insane, but is it at all possible my truck is braking harder than it used to due to an update? It's a 2023 with 26k miles on it that I bought new. I'm pretty in tune with how it drives. Lately, maybe the past week or so, I swear it's stopping harder than it used to with equal amounts of pressure applied. It really stood out to me this morning.

Absolutely likely that it's in my head, but its felt noticeable enough that I figured its worth asking.

The newer vehicles can fully apply the brakes themselves- so there's a chance they could do something via a programming update. Taking up the slack between the pads and rotor is something they could add for example that would make it feel more responsive. $$$$$$$$ cars have been doing that for years.

I doubt they would though. Once the software for the brake system is validated, they won't touch that unless absolutley necessary.

Obviously anecdotal, but I did ask the same question on a Raptor FB group and there seem to be a few others noticing it as well.

Funny you bring this up. Mine feels like what you are describing. This started 2-3 weeks ago. I chalked it up to not having driven it for a week while out of town.

Interesting. Yeah, thinking back, I'm guessing I first noticed it around then. I drove around a ton today and I think it's most pronounced under 5MPH coming to a stop, but I definitely notice it to some degree at all times.

You would have a notice for a OTA but regardless I haven’t seen any ABS or any other update that would relate to this. Maybe cooler weather?

Yeah I drove the 23 the first time today after being out of town for a week. First application of the brake coming down the driveway I had an awkward learners permit sudden braking moment where I kinda went “huh”. Could be I was used to the rental car though. I don’t think my truck had an update however.

Exactly how mine feels right now! I wasn't aware of any update either.


I drove around a good amount today and it's absolutely not in my head. I never once thought about the brakes on this truck the past year and a half. I am thinking about them just about every time I brake now. Something very unnatural about their behavior.

I am good friends with the service manager at the local dealership and got this text from him yesterday:
"I spoke with my foreman. He hasn’t heard of any concerns specifically and he is very active on fords internal forums.
He did say the new gen f150s have an electronic booster and the brakes are very touchy. To the point he commented about not liking to drive them… ie; pedal depressed and nothing,nothing,nothing then hard stop.
I’d be happy to take a look for you but don’t know if there will be a resolution "

I would say that's "sort of" how my truck is braking. Not exact, but along those lines.


My truck has 28k on it as of yesterday. I would say for the past 3k miles that I'm definitely applying pressure to the brakes differently that I was for the first 25k. Equal pressure seems to make the truck stop harder, but it seems to be inconsistent at lower speeds (under 10mph coming to a stop). There has almost never been a time in the past 3k when stopping that I don't find myself actively thinking about how the truck is going to stop.

I took the wheels of yesterday to inspect the brakes and there was basically perfect wear across all eight pads and are sitting at 9MM of life left. Rotors look perfect.

No fault codes of any kind. Is there anything else worth looking in to or just accept that this is how it is now?
