I’m an old retired guy that is thinking about getting a SCAB Raptor. I have a good friend a Gen 2 that I’ve driven a lot. Great truck. It won’t really be off-roader—just a pavement pounder toy. I’ve never driven a Gen 1, and may go look at this one (it’s a few hours away). From the as it looks clean, and from KBB, a little overpriced. From current market? Any thoughts?

2010, and 44k miles? Not bad. 35k though? I think my -upper- limit for shelling out for it would be about 28k, delivered?

NOTE: Know what the actual book value is and if you pay under that, get a NOTARIZED receipt or MVA will assess the full book value on the vehicle tax.

A year and half ago I paid 25k for essentially the same truck but red/orange, all the features look the same, but ours had 170k miles. I probably overpaid, but it was from a member here and truck had a solid'ish history.

If it's in excellent condition, the price may not be horribly out of line. Check underneath for rust.

It’s definitely expensive for a 12 year old truck, but the mileage is very low for it’s age and it’s a 1 owner vehicle. Sounds like it was used as a weekend toy, and ideally wasn’t driven in winter. If the maintenance records are all in order and the condition is as good as it appears in the photos, I’m sure they’ll find a buyer.

What’s eye opening is that it was $44k brand new, and 12 years later it’s selling for $35k. Yes, you can factor in inflation, but it’s still a 2010 in terms of features, design, performance, and tech. If you were buying it for weekend desert runs that would be one thing, but you said you’re looking for a DD. And a pristine low mileage example like this wouldn’t be ideal for that purpose anyway.

Since your experience has been with a G2, I would recommend driving a G1 before making any purchase. There is a huge difference between the two generations in every regard, and the G1 feels archaic by comparison.

44k miles on 2010 is definitely worth taking a look if you're close by IMHO. If it was in "show room" condition then I can see the justification for a poor Joe Shmo like myself to pull the trigger on it... but it's showing it's age with imperfections in the rear bumper and some rust on the top of the rear shox to point out a few.
But at the end of the day, if it's going to give you some peace of mind to own a vic with low miles for its age then go for it brother. It's your money and your happiness. Definitely test drive a GEN1 too, very different experience to the GEN2 you're used to.
One thing to keep in mind is that even though it wasn't driven a lot there are parts that age regardless of it being driven or not (rubber parts and plastics exposed to the sun, etc).
Can't wait to see what you pic! Happy hunting!

Thanks for the great advice. I need to drive a G1 to see what I think. There’s a couple other G1 SCABs near here that seem OK price wise. I’ll see where this goes and let you know. I’m not in a rush, as I’m currently driving a GMC that’s a great truck, but just lacks the fun factor of a Raptor.

Great point and something I should have mentioned. One of the worst things for a vehicle is to sit; everything ages around it. Fluids, brakes, tires, hoses, bushings, seals, etc. They all wear out by age regardless of mileage.

If its a Sierra go ahead a put some wheel locks on there if you don't already. Dropped my 22 Sierra at the dealer for its first complimentary service and some non-contributing members of society took all 4 tires and left it sitting on block at the dealership overnight. The dealership ended up "buying back" the truck from me...

At least the thieves had the courtesy of leaving it sitting on blocks versus the brake rotors...
