Just wanted to thank @OpsWest for their post on installing 37" tires on a 35" truck. I purchased a set of 5 brand new 37" tire/wheel takeoffs from Craigslist and couldn't be happier. The tow strap method to install the 37" spare worked perfectly. I have zero rub on any of the wheels and will be installing the RPG 1.5" leveling kit soon.

My neighbor didn't have any rub when he changed to 37's till he went off road hit a hole in a turn and cut his front tire. Suppose if you are going to stay on the road you will be ok.

Sounds like the whole was the culprit for the cut tire and not the truck. Am I reading this correctly? The tire didn’t contact anything on the truck, no?

Yes the tire hit right front fender liner and a section of body joint that is glued together to form about a 1 inch protruding "blade" just in side the liner cut the tire. This could also be why 37's have one inch less travel than a 35.

I'm glad you're in california OP, because the tow strap wouldn't be worth crap come winter time in the northeast. The salt and brine would literally eat that strap apart.
