GEN 2 Anchor Bolt issue

Hey All,

Just hit 18k on my 2019 Raptor, it started sounding like a shit box going over small bumps (like a high pitched metal on metal squeaking). I also had an issue where I could hear what sounded like a loose belt noise when accelerating in 2WD, tried it in 4WD and it went away. So snooping around on the forums it looks like it may have been an issue with the IWE... So I took it into the Clermont Ford Dealership here in Florida to get it looked at and to have them change the oil and do "the works package".

They checked the IWE and no issues found, what they did end up finding was the anchor bolts needed to be replaced on the front passenger side caliper. It was making both the "rattling" and "belt" sound when accelerating. What I don't get is that I can hear that sound in 2WD but not 4WD which pointed me to an IWE immediately...

Does anyone have the TSB for the IWE issue? I scoured the forums and couldn't find it, I want to relay that TSB to the service manager just to have them look at it.

I don't believe there is a TSB for IWE, IWEs have been problematic since Ford started using them. I know some members carry extra valves in their trucks. I've got 26k on my 2017 and haven't had any issues yet. (knock on wood) You can also do an IWE delete if you don't want to continue to replace the valves, periodically.

The TSB that was released only applies to 2013-2018 models. 2019 models have updated parts with an updated calibration. If an issue still exists after they repaired the brake caliper, then they will need to verify the concern and follow Workshop Manual Diagnostics. The IWE operation is not complicated, it’s a simple vacuum controlled system.

Did replacing the anchor bolt fix the issue or do you not have the truck back yet from the dealer?

Well looks like it was the IWE on both sides... wasn't even a broken caliper anchor bolt... just conflicting information from the service manager and what the tech wrote down.

No more noise accelerating in 2WD so that fixed it, the rubbing metal sound was a loose passenger side bumper bolt, the fixed that too.

Amazing service at that dealership.
