Am I missing a brace on my transfer case?

I was under the truck installing exhaust adapters, and there is a cleanly machined spot with three tapped holes in it, with nothing attached to it... Seems like something is missing? Or maybe just a spot where it is used on a different model? thoughts?

Did you wipe it clean? If not it certainly looks like there was something there keeping it clean before.

I wiped the dirt off, but it is clearly a machined flat spot with threaded holes. Its not like I lost anything, whatever isnt there, has never been there.

Doesn't look anything like the case shown by Ford when they launched it. 6a45a10e3ca6f248f2bc3dd17b8be3f2.jpg

Presume that your image is of the front drive shaft attachment to the case?

It is from the rear looking forward, so that is the rear driveshaft.

Mind you it's been a few years since I've spun a wrench for a living but, that looks like your front differential, and the machined flat spot with the three holes is where the bench mount goes for servicing the unit.

Hmmm, Maybe it is the front diff. Im used to subarus, so the tranny/front diff/center diff are all one unit, I may be wrong and that is indeed the front diff.

Thanks dude!

Id appreciate if someone else could poke their head under and look and confirm theirs is the same! Should be easily visible!
