All-New Ford F-150 Raptor Will Debut Feb. 3

i kind of hate it.

Any objective reason? Not knocking you for disliking it, just wondering if you're seeing something that others (me) isn't seeing. I can completely see why some people might not like it. I think I like it, but I think this single camera angle makes it appear rather flat...which I wouldn't like. I get the feeling other camera angles will reveal that it's not so flat. One things for sure, it's going to be easy to recognize this Gen 3 from other F150s and Raptors.

Unrelated. I keep think the applique on the tailgate will be gone. Ford has been stamping F-150 on the tailgate, so I wouldn't be surprised if they stamp RAPTOR on the back. Pure speculation on my part, and I don't think I'd like that.

I am a big fan of the way the gen2s look. I feel like Ford wanted to pay homage to the OG, but over-rotated a bit.

Any of my other initial observations are around complexity in modifying the new trucks, but to be honest, I have no interest in buying one to modify,m so perhaps its just a moot point.

The key to happiness is to want what you already have.

I don't know if you are biased or what and I can see the resemblance of Gen1 and Gen3 based on this picture, but we must wait to see it all before making comparisons. I like the Gen2 a lot and initially felt a bit disappointed of this picture compared to what I was hoping for, but more I look at it, I start to think it might have some potential. Front end may not be toe flat and the edgy looks might turn into some beast looking track that TRX never will be. So I give it a shot at this point.

This front end shot definitely has the intercooler behind the bumper, so you know for sure the ecoboost is the base engine. I am more interested in the super raptor though. I hope they show that, and give timing. I am ready to cut a check - ha ha.

Completely see where you're coming from here regarding the look. It's interesting because it feels as though taking parts off the 21' F150, then throwing the Raptor cues in...sort of ending up looking like a Gen 1, rather than an actual intent to page homage to the Gen1. Again though, it may appear much different when we see additional angles.

And your other thought about modification is a good point. Aftermarket front bumpers will be a bigger deal, as you now have to deal with the parking sensors, collision sensor (whatever it's officially called), and fog light and the other light in the bumper.

I like the look of it actually. At first it looks a bit "old" or dated, but once you look at the front end a few more times you see its a cleaned up design in several key areas, while borrowing a bit of the sort of "old classic" design from the Gen 1. Curious to see what it looks like in person, as well as the full shot. It's hard to improve on the front-end of the Gen 2, it's a really great looking front-end I think would be extremely difficult to improve upon.

Even the interior of the Gen 2 while Ford definitely cheaped out on material quality overall, it has a very "masculine" and clean design. Really the interior could've used nicer materials, and a bit larger screen in the same position to fill up the width of where the Gen 2 screen sits and used some better materials etc. on the knobs and switches and that would've been awesome to me anyhow. The door design I do like better on the 2021 F150 trucks though for sure, and the glove compartment are is garbage on the Gen2. Overall the Gen2 needed some minor styling and material upgrades, not sure how much I like the 2021 interiors really.

I think the major upgrade to this truck will be some of the suspension setup and components. No doubt the truck will drive much better than the Gen2, so for that reason I know at some point I'll pick up one of the Gen 3s I'm sure

on the rear suspension, I'm not quite sure how you'll be able to improve travel without having spring ejection issues or having to change the lower arms and mounting points.

I think that the gen3s are going to have a much longer ramp time for aftermarket parts and any material performance improvements will require a lot more surgery.

I feel like we're heading into a Gen3 Raptor as more of a " you get what you bought" sort of ownership model.

Yeah, I can see that happened with it being more of a "you get what you bought" sort of truck. The amount of customization and modification to a huge number of components on the Gen2 is staggering; even the interior you can overhaul in several ways on your own.

Good point there on the rear suspension. I'm sure though that it'll match of course or slightly better the stock Gen 2's travel specs, but I could see that being more difficult to mod for sure. All depends on how you use your truck I guess but in stock vs. stock form I'm sure the Gen 3 will have a noticeably better ride.
