Thinking of checking out Afton Canyon this weekend.

I heard that the rains changed a lot of the parts of the Mojave road trail. The two major water crossings from what I have been reading on the web are pretty much gone. (the second one by the train bridge I read is now sand)

Was going to go do some 'splorin.

Maybe head out there after work today.

Update:

Well I almost died this morning around 2am. This isn't a joke. I was a passenger in a Jeep up in Gorman, CA and we were going up a trail. My wife was in a separate vehicle and witnessed the entire event with another Jeeper. The jeep I was in slid off a 150ft cliff and rolled 7 times down the cliff resting 80 feet from the trail. There was a person we were camping with driving, myself as a passenger and the driver's chihuahua. The dog got ejected from the vehicle (but unbelievable was unharmed and found later in some bushes) The only thing that saved my life was the rollbar and wearing a seatbelt. Wife witnessed the entire ordeal from another jeep. We just got home and I am taking the day off tomorrow. Cannot believe I am not dead after what I went thru.

I'm bruised and have a small laceration on my forehead. Had some dirt get in my eye but that is the extent of it. The driver was unharmed and the dog that flew out of the jeep didn't have an injury either. Owner of the jeep I was in is still up in that area doing a vehicle extraction.

Trail was Miller Jeep Trail.

I'm lucky to be alive.

Dude!! Glad you're OK!! What happened to cause the rollover? Proof of why we wear seatbelts even in low speed situations. I've never been through anything like that I can't even imagine...your wife must have been freaking out watching that happen. Again, I'm glad you and the driver are OK!!

Here are the coordinates where we slid off.

34.682357,-118.780777 (Los Angeles, California, USA)

There were four of us in two jeeps.

Since mine is stock I left it at the campsite and we rode with the other jeepers.

Cause of accident was lead jeep I was in stopped on wrong side of trail to wait for trailing jeep. Driver stopped on canyon side of trail vs canyon wall side of trail and we slid.

Jeep was ok for about a half second before driver tried to recover and then we started tumbling.

It was pretty insane and being nighttime I had no idea how far we were falling.

All my wife saw were the taillights and headlights going end over end as the jeep tumbled down the ravine.

We were very lucky it wasn't a 1000ft drop, or there was water or rocks where we fell.

I'm taking tomorrow off due to all of this.

Holy hell! Really glad to hear you're alright buddy.

So in retrospect, you're feeling is that had he stopped on the wall side, you guys would have been ok? Was it just a function of time and pressure? As in the side you stopped on after a bit of time just gave way?

Damn man.
