I tried! I think the guy would have dumped the oil filter right in front of me! As far as bikes. I WILL NEVER let a shop do anything related to the main assets of any of my bikes. I would let them **** with an electrical issue if one cropped up I could not handle. I have a buddy I worked with who works at a BMW / Triumph / Euro bikeshop. He does work here or at his place and I watch and help. No dealers unless its an expensive warranty issue, then your stuck.

+1 for telling the owner. It's easy to get it right, have to know about the bad things in order to fix them. I wouldn't kill the guy and blow a hole in him but I would let him know what happened.

It is stories like this why I do my own maintenance and vehicle work when I can. I hate changing the oil in my F350 (tow rig) and absolutely hate doing a brake job solo but I have complete peace of mind when I hit the track knowing I did it right. I know I use the right filters, oil, brake fluid, distilled water (I do not use antifreeze in the track cars) and the rest of the fluids.

Sorry to hear your story and it is very common. The GT500 holds half a bottle more than stated anywhere because you should fill up the oil filter with oil before you install it. There is not many techs who know that. Most of the people who change oil are in that job position for a reason. 1. they are young and getting experience or 2. They sucked in school and did not learn a damn thing.

It was about 1990 that I last visited one of those ****** lube places. They told me my rear diff oil was low. I thanked but advised them not to fill it as it was a front wheel drive car.

Since that day I went back to doing my own work.

I sucked! Its like stepping off a cliff and not knowing how it will end. Oh I had a bungie hooked up but I still hit my head! AHhaaaaa. It did suck. Whats bad is this guy was telling me he has 5 kids. FIVE! He coaches and so on. Imagine how successful his teams will be if they follow his lead. SHIT! It's stories like yours that give good service folks a bad name. Sorry to hear what had been a dependable shop screwed up so bad. Thankfully, you caught it and had the ability to do your own work to fix it. I'd be worried about an episode like that happening to my wife and her getting stranded in a not so great part of town. Your rant is justified in my book and the feminization is indeed out of control.

We've stopped teaching kids to use failure and defeat as opportunities to teach early life lessons in humility, build character, motivate them to work harder, and ultimately succeed. This is something that has only gotten worse since I grew up in the 80s. Now, a six-year-old simply pointing a finger at another kid results in the police being called for a terroristic threat.

At any rate, one of my shooting buddies owns a Kwik Kar here in Houston and I use his guys for all the maintenence on my old Dodge but, I've chosen to let the dealer do all the work on my Raptor. My friend's Kwik Kar guys have always done great work on the Dodge but, the possibility of not having the right parts/procedures for a new and unfamiliar truck seemed all too likely with an engine that has only been out for a year or so. There is also the fact that it is an entirely different shop when the owner isn't there. As a rule, I call him to see if he's in the shop before I take the Dodge in for service. We talk guns and stuff while his guys work on my truck. But if he's not there, my truck doesn't go into the bay.

Just think about all the people who get screwed with auto repair/service and never realize it.

My Dad use to love the local Firestone shop owner and would take his car in there and ask them to check it over. I'd be like "Dad, have they ever NOT found something wrong?" He unneccessarily spent thousands at that place. Mother ****ing Crooks.

Firestone, AAMCO, and NTB, three places that will never touch another vehicle of mine again.

A local AAMCO ripped me off on a tranny rebuild that likely didn't need to happen but, when I got back to the shop to see how the "water" from my cooling system on a 3/4-ton Dodge got in my tranny, the tranny was conveniently offsite and the truck completely disassembled. Too many other things were going in my life and I didn't have the time or inclination to deal with it. So I paid them to do work that needed to be done anyway just to expedite getting the truck back on the road for work.

NTB was supposed to do tires, shocks and an alignment on my 3/4-ton Dodge QuadCab Hemi 4x4. The alignment turned into replacing ball joints on top of the shocks, tires, and alignment. At the time, given the age of the truck, I felt this might be reasonable but, I didn't know that was going to start another nightmare event because the truck wasn't ready until two hours after closing time and by the time I did get th truck back, it was immediately clear the alignment hadn't been done, steering was stiff, and wouldn't return to center on its own (as if the truck had zero caster and no power steering). Then one one of the front calipers seized up on the drive home and I discovered the vent hose for the front diff was dragging under the truck.

I called at 7am the next morning to talk to the manager. By time we got off the phone, a flatbed wrecker was at my house to pick up the truck and bring it back. I must have been heard throughout the shop because every technician they had lined up to watch me talk with the manager when we got back to the shop. I didn't mind paying for parts but labor for services that hadn't been rendered was out of the question and I certainly wasn't paying for damages to the truck. I got all sorts of appologies, gift cards, etc but, I've sworn never to return.

And then there's Firestone. Less than 18 months after the ball joint fun with NTB, guess who wanted to do another set of ball joints after doing an alignment? Thanks but no thanks. I did however ask them to replace warn bushings on the sway bar and a couple lights around the truck that were out. I got truck back and the alignment was only slightly better than it was when it went in, sway bar bushings hadn't been replace and neither were the lights. Went back, was told I hadn't made those requests until I half slapped the manager in the face with the work order and invoice detailing the requests and the related charges to my credit card. Charges got reversed and I ended up doing the work myself until my friend's Kwik Kar shop opened.
