Does ford actually recommend a brand of gas or just the amount of octane?
Thanks

From Ford:

“For best overall vehicle and engine performance, premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher is recommended. The performance gained by using premium fuel is most noticeable in hot weather as well as other conditions, for example when towing a trailer.”

No mention of “brand”. That would be extremely unusual to single out a gas brand which varies throughout the country (or overseas)

Right; what he said.

you --can-- burn as low as 87, which is great if you are off roading and that’s all there is. Like... Baja. But, if you want to wring every ounce of performance out of the engine, put in the highest octane you can get.

Just make sure it’s Top Tier and branded. It’s all the same from the refinery to the truck. At the truck is where the brand adds their additives and as long as its Top Tier it will meet industry standard to carry that name.

I use Phillips 66 fuel, I may be biased.

For the first 10K miles mine had nothing but 87 and then one day I decided to try 93, dang this thing runs so much better!!

Ford recommends Top Tier Fuel. Top Tier Fuel was developed by automakers due to the inconsistent and often poor quality of gasoline in the 80's and 90's. It establishes a quality standard as well as a requirement for the minimum amount of additives and detergents that must be present in the fuel. Testing has shown that the difference is substantial, especially in terms of carbon buildup.
