I bought my 2018 four months ago with 99k miles. I knew I was rolling the dice on a few things but it was a pavement princess with no scratches underneath and detailed service and maintenance records all performed at the dealership. It had the new cam phasers done at 55k and the shocks replaced twice. Oil pan was replaced, so I pulled the trigger.

After a little while I noticed a chirpy whistle on hard acceleration. I assumed it was a boost leak so I took it into the nearest Ford dealership. I also suspected the dreaded broken manifold stud so I was prepared for a hefty estimate. What a I got was an estimate for $4,800 for TWO broken manifold studs, one on each manifold, and a bad wastegate actuator (recommending I replace the turbo).

The service guy said usually both manifolds have to be replaced due to warpage and the turbo was recommended to be replaced due to the faulty wastegate actuator. I replaced the same thing in my 2012 FX4 for like $35, but I realize it's not the same engine.

Below are the tech's service notes. That's all the guy sent me when I asked for the diagnostic report.

What do y'all make of this? I'm planning to talk to an independent shop for a second opinion. Any recommendations around the New Braunfels, TX area would be appreciated. In the past I've done all my own engine work but I told myself I'd let the pros handle the Raptor when I got it.

THIS IS THE NOTES ENTERED BY THE TECH ON HIS DIAG REPORT - verified concern turbo makes chatter noise on start up and screeching noise heard on acceleration. perform inspection. follow gsb 24-7023 for turbo noise. gsb to refer to pinpoint test for noise. perform pinpoint test B. B1-yes B2-no go to ppt C. C1- no codes C2-no C3- no C4- no C5-yes wastegate actuator is loose on turbo causing rattle noise. new turbo recommended for left side. perform inspection, found broken rear stud on both left and right exhaust manifold causing exhaust leak and screech noise heard on acceleration. will need to remove both exhaust manifolds, check warpage on manifold. m-time to extract broken stud. replace both manifold gaskets and manifolds if needed.

Edit: this is the reply when I asked about replacing the whole ******* turbo and BOTH exhaust manifolds - "Turbo was a recommendation. The manifolds he says if needed but we always quote them because odds are from past experience is they are warped. Especially having the broken studs that will have to be extracted."x45bhd6fecoe1.jpg
