Those of you who have replaced the factory muffler on the 6.2L, would you please do me a favor? I need you to look through the muffler from the intake side and see if you can see straight through to daylight through the exhaust outlets. I'm trying to determine if the factory muffler is a straight-through unit. If it is, I won't replace it until it needs to be replaced. Thanks in advance!

I was surprised at just how light the OEM muffer was. I could also see light through the inlet side. Didn't hold it up to the light but noticed light when I was stowing it in the bed for the ride home.

Can any others shed some light on the nature of the factory muffler? I've got two that say it's a chambered design (not flow-through) and one who said he could see light through it.

I just ordered a 3" single DMMH cutout and Y-Pipe today :)

BTW,

ISFast, For future reference, what kind of tires are those on your Raptor? Those are pretty slick :)

Ever seen this?

Back when I had my Z06, a lot of guys were cutting a 7" square trap door (3 sides) to expose the internal perforated pipe... then they would weld a solid pipe around it. To do this, they had to take a standard pipe, cut it in half lengthwise, weld the lower half in first, then the upper half. Then lastlly, weld the trap door back shut.

And then another fella made his own kind of "manual" cutout...

This fella did a little nicer job though:

I'm a complete newbie to exhaust, so not sure what significance there is to catback, headers, cutouts, weld-on's, etc. For those who could do this in their sleep, a very brief what is it/what labor involved/what advantage/what price range of each of these options would be fantastic or a link to a thread if I've missed it would be appreciated. if I may just want to deepen the exhaust note, give it a little umphh when the foot is in it, should I just have the muffler replaced with a different one? If so, which of these options is this... weld-on? Thanks. :help:

If you just want sound weld in or cut out is what you want. Most power gain and most expensive will be a header back system

When I think "flow-through" I think "straight-through" like this muffler:

Although some light might pass through end to end, the factory muffler is NOT a straight through muffler like pictured above. It has several sound wave chambers and a few inches of sound absorption packaging.

I was at the dealer yesterday to get the new driveshaft installed, and they had an extensive display comparing F150s to Dodge, Chevy, and foreign trucks. The photo of the F150 muffler cut-away had a pipe that went straight through from end to end, and three tuning pipes of different lengths welded to it at right angles. Looked like a straight-through model to me, but it couldn't be the muffler in the Raptor because the Raptor muffler has two outlets.

Anyone who installed a cat-back exhaust system, did you keep the factory muffler and can you examine it for the rest of us please?
