Of course an auto manufacture has to put that in there. Because some idiot will drive all day with it on and then want it fixed under warranty.
The manual also tells you, you can use 87 octane, but stop using it if there is excessive pinging. LOL

I've had 4 4x4 for over 25+ years, even my 84 full size Bronco that you had to drive in reverse 15 feet to unlock the front diff, I could and have driven in 4x4 on pavement.
Never had an issue. I am careful doing it though.

An excerpt from the manual concerning 4wd...
if you try to make sharp turns on pavement, it will definitely cause problems. but every dealer, when they fix 4wd problems, has to test 4wd on pavement. i know that going in a straight line, you shouldnt have any problems. but making a right turn on pavement regardless of speed can cause problems
