@ 430 hp and only 475 lb-ft....i guess the V8 in Raptor crowd will pipe down

So why didn't Ford just stick the 3.5L TT in the F250-F650 and call it a day?

Good question. As others have pointed out, the 3.5L isn’t meant for 24/7 high engine load (e.g towing, plowing, hauling). Turbo *gasoline* engines are great when you only need the full HP occasionally and bad when you need it 100% of the time. My Jeep Wrangler 4.0L turbo could see 1600F (pre turbine) exhaust gas temps during sustained high load operations. This creates many other issues.

Also, turbo gas engines are delicate. For example, if you have a boost leak or the vacuum line to the FPR slips off, you can be in serious trouble. Engine knock is also much more severe since the air is already 2-3x atmospheric pressure before it even enters the cylinder.

I would take the 3.5L any day but I don’t think you’ll ever beat the durability or reliability of a naturally aspirated V8.

Hey J-Bro- see? I don't need to type all that shit. Just ask a simple rhetorical question and let everyone else explain why the 3.5L is a delicate flower compared to an engine that is built to last.

I am excited to see the independent reviews soon on this engine. Should be better than the GM 6.6 gas engine.
I also agree - they previous raptor 6.2 had more hp than the super duty 6.2 version. It would seem logical that Ford would reuse that thought here.
Any way it goes, this 7.3 is good for Ford

But were both the previous gen raptor & HD engines the same or did they simply share the same displacement?

For instance- you could have the same discussion years back when GM made the LS2 6.0 & the Vortec 6.0 alongside each other- same cylinder count, same displacement, both used in trucks, but def not the same engine.
