Took my wife's car to a local inspection station today and while waiting my 10 minutes for the inspection I got to talking to a guy who said that he had recently brought his 2004 Dodge Truck in with retrofitted HID's and was refused service, stating it was a company policy not to inspect vehicles with non-OEM headlights. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem going somewhere else once I get my HID's from Retro, wish list, but am curious if anyone here might have a guess as to what issue you think they are addressing with this policy?

Non DOT is the issue. The lights are not legal for on road use. Do the research. Easy way to get pulled over as well..

That's lame. I passed inspection every time with HIDs in halogen housings in headlights and foglights for 5 years in my Titan.

IIRC, the way to get around this is to use OEM housings. The reason being is that the OEM housings are stamped DOT approved (or something similar), whereas aftermarket ones have no such mark. As a result, you could "argue" with the police or inspection station that the truck came equipped with DOT approved headlights (i.e. your retro HID's) from the manufacturer.

Even though we don't have inspections in OK, I went ahead and bought used OEM housings for Dawson to retro, with the above logic in mind. I'm sure he'll chime in, but assuming you wanted the option to keep your OEM's, I'd just ask Dawson if he is using OEM housings or aftermarket when you buy directly from him.

Ive never heard of a place being so **** about it, I would just go somewhere else. All the headlights we sell have the DOT approval on the bottom of the head and if its really that big of a deal just put the oem halogens back in for the inspection then swap them out after you get the sticker.
