Yep, Discount tire sells both versions actually.
To clarify, it is my understanding that the S compound tire was not on the market before the Raptor and the Raptor is the only vehicle that comes with them as OEM equipemnt. This would lead one to concluded that it was developed specifically for the Raptor (I want to think I have seen some official data, but I cannot recall offhand where I saw it...)The R tires is the regular compound (the S is the Raptor specific compound). The R compound is available in the stock size, too (as far as I am aware).
Hmm. I just looked at Discount Tires and the only tire size they show with two different compounds for is the 315/70r17. The only other sizes that showed options were different load ranges (and one typo). Maybe your friend got two different load range tires?As far as I know both compounds have been around for a Long time I recall a friend putting a set of BFG at's on his f350 and 1 kept wearing different than the other 3, when he took the truck to a different tire shop they pointed out the fact that it had 2 different compound tires on it
