I think it's just cost cutting. Every change saves them money. The red stripe was a warranty nightmare. The Torsen was costly. The key fob is another part number to buy, stock, and track. The side steps can now be shared with the Tremor. Every single one saves money. Ford is cutting every possible corner. I haven't looked at their financials, but the failure of the Lightning might have put them in a corner where they have to fight for survival. I wouldn't be surprised to see gen 4 pushed out a year or two for the same reason.
