Only the larger lights such as the LP4, 6, 9, to my knowledge, have the backround amber light. Have a look at Rigid background lights and you will see how much nicer and brighter they are.
That said, I still feel BD are better lights.

If you look above at BD's explanation, they state the XL80 doesn't have the background amber light, nor do any of their lights that are shaped in that way.

Keep in mind that the LP series (4, 6, 9 - the amount of lights in each housing ever increasing in size) have side glass on both sides and the inner side will absolutely blind you. It requires a plastic insert which I believe is sold separately.

Also, if you plan on getting lights on the A pillar such as shown above, I'd go with clear. While amber may be slightly better in fog, and that's debatable as there are videos that show a marginal difference, high mounted lights on A pillar are useless against fog. I have amber and am just too lazy to buy and swap to clear though I'd like to.
do most people go for the backlit options? I thought it would be cool to match the DRL's

What do you mean lock wire bolts?
** AI Generated Answer**

Lockwire, also known as safety wire or wire lock, is a mechanical device that prevents fasteners from loosening. It's used in a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing.

How it works

  • Thread the wire through the fastener's hole
  • Twist the wire onto another part of the fastener
  • Twist the wire again
Benefits Prevents fasteners from loosening due to vibration, Indicates that fasteners have been properly tightened, Prevents serious mechanical failures, and Keeps people safe.

Does the LP4's have the backlight on both clear and amber? Also, what brackets are recommended to install these for a 24'?

The Lp4 model comes standard with a backlight no matter what color lens you have on there. The amber is meant to match your DRL. We also have different colors as well, but they are not street-legal.

The backlight is the least impressive thing about them. It’s dull and needs improvement. Doesn’t compare to backlights on Rigid @Baja Designs

Just depends on the circumstances. During the day I do agree it's a little hard to see but in darker conditions, it illuminates the entire light. It comes down to personal preference, but I completely understand wanting a brighter backlight.

^^^^ This.

If I fire up the A pillar XL80s even in rain, it’s no bueno. A-pillar lights are great at firing long distance, not much value for close in lighting and overkill where there are street signs.
In dust, fog etc, the lights down low with a non “wide angle” spread do the best for me, the SAE lights also help as they have a wide spread but a hard height cut off that helps control the light reflected back at you.

I go for clear lenses, and amber rock covers. Much simpler to swap the rock covers out than change the lenses.

What part of an LP4 or 6 or 9 or XL80 is street legal? No matter the color. Unless you are just speaking of the backlight itself. Are you saying for instance a blue or red backlight is illegal? Understood.

All our lights except our SAE model are for off-road use only. Sorry for the confusion I was referring to the backlight.
