gt500 engine is like $22k lol
not sure why we are talking bout it though still b/c they’re def not putting in the Raptor R lol

It's $22K if *you* want to buy one.

It might cost Ford an extra $100 to build a GT500 engine vs a n/a 5.0L engine. Better rods and pistons, some better valve train components, diff piston ring package, maybe an oil pump tweak.

Then you add the blower system. They are NOT paying $8K for a supercharger kit. They are getting the compressors in the $1000 range and the rest of the parts (ic core, pump, front mount HE) might be another $800 or so.

Oh it’s not THAT cheap for them to produce believe me, def huge markup, but not as crazy as ya think. I’m in the biz- make Aluminum products for die-casters/OEM suppliers & the bug auto manufacturers.

take a look at these GM goodies we take back as “scrap” a lot of the stuff is functional just aesthetic blemishes many times.

that being said- Probably cost a lot more in the R&D dept tho w/ the 5.2 SC vs the 7.3 pushrod

OK, so if you are so knowledgeable in the industry, why are you throwing out all these BS numbers? $8000 in extra money to S/C a engine that is already developed?

You KNOW it's nowhere near that much money. You also KNOW the GT500 engine is a mere fraction of the crate motor price.

It's the fact you hate Ford V8s. You've stated it on here many times.

Ford is putting one of their horrid V8's back into the truck you so begrudlegly bought as a GM fanboy since it didn't come with one. That is blasphemy to you. Got it.

If Ford is listing the BRAND NEW 7.3 for $8k & $22k for the 5.2 SC that’s been out at least 3-4 years (more?) longer (as in- time to pay down initial investment R&D & also gauge the market value/demand as well) then by THEIR measure the they need to recoup that much more cash for it on the back end.

so even though “in a vacuum” it doesn’t cost as much more to make one or the other in basic parts/materials- they’ve put more emphasis & “cost basis” if you will onto that 5.2 SC

which is also why it makes sense to put it in a halo vehicle like Raptor R- further enhance the notoriety & “exclusiveness” of that engine while charging a pretty penny for it as a crate motor gives all the justification to put that in the Raptor R.

Correct- im not as fond of Ford V8s (& I think the market speaks for itself as well) but that doesn’t mean Ford may not go back to offering more of them in certain niche vehicles since they’re “averaging down” their cafe #s w/ the EV/hybrid & EB options.

my whole point is- Ford doesn’t care bout cutting costs as much in a vehicle like this so they’re (IMHO) not going to cut corners by using a workhorse FE “truck” motor that’s FAR less proven in a halo vehicle just to save a few bucks.

The end of my baby

I drag race with a bunch of friends. One of them has a 7.3 with a whipple making about 1400hp/1300lbft. I have a connection deep within the Raptor R development. I have personally seen a few Raptor R mules in person. Near where I live they drive a local hwy as part of their route. We see many mules from all brands and they stop at a local truck stop.

July 21. I was the only occupant. On the freeway I was hit in the rear corner of the cab, passenger side, an was sent into a flat spin. After a 180 it hit the shoulder, slid into the grass, the tires dug in and it began rolling down the hill into the ditch. I walked out where the sunroof used to be without a scratch. I do have a strained neck, which is painful, but extremely thankful for safety equipment and engineering!!
