Who cares? Ford should just ignore Ram and do their own thing. The only thing the TRX has going for it is more HP and that's if you care about it. While there are a group of "V8 or nothing" people in this group, a lot of us don't mind have the V6 and in my case actually prefer it. I think the sales numbers of the Gen2 reflect that. It's pretty obvious that the governments of the world are pushing towards electric and efficiency anyway, so just let the TRX die slowly on the side of the road.

What a letdown. I was ready to head up to the dealer where I got my 17 and put a deposit down. The only thing they did was add a little lipstick and mascara. Anyone would be crazy to buy one of there knowing the big change will be next year.

I'm disappointed but they're doing what manufacturers do. First year people will buy because it's the new style. Second year add additional interest by introducing something new, like a V8. Third year they'll do updates again to try and keep interest, like an interior.

I'm going to hold out until the 3rd year with hopes they offer the Powerboost powertrain.

Is it a “bust” b/c Ford didn’t already have the SC V8 ready on debut that (just guessing) 95% of the respondents including the OP won’t be buying anyhow? Ok

Is this talk mostly stemming from inadequacies felt from the big scary TRX? My guess is....mostly yes

so what do we know currently? We KNOW that the Gen 2 Raptor is already supremely capable & PROVEN so in both millions of miles of real world use & probably millions of miles of offroad use by both private owners, pros, & testers alike. We don’t know if the TRX can live up to the hype or live up to the hype/abuse that comes w/ it for any kind of longevity w/o falling apart

we know that a Gen3 Raptor w/ coil over rear & other upgrades, + more power will only raise the offroad capability bar even higher from where the gen2 left it

On the street, we know that a used gen2 raptor having basically just an aggressive handheld tune was able to run within a 1/2 car length to a 707hp stock TRX.....& we know it did this on HEAVY 37”s (watch the vid) so we also know, more than likely, if a tuned gen2 had stock 35”s it’d basically be neck & neck in terms of straight line acceleration

we know the gen3 raptor will have more power than the gen2 & it’ll be similar in weight if not lighter while the TRX was already 1000+ lbs heavier than a gen2 all else being equal

so....if anything I’m looking at this like the TRX is set to be a bust itself in reality & RAM probably already knew that’d be the case so they were in a rush to market & deliver their fat pig of a Baja machine-

SO- while 700+ HP sounds cool coming out of my mouth- as does the whine/growl of that blown Hemi V8- all that noise & dyno #s ain’t gonna change the fact that in “base” gen3 on 35”s you’ll probably come close to the TRX in raw acceleration & Id bet the farm inch it out w/ a $500 tune......while being more capable offroad for sure, more practical on road no doubt, get way better mileage, have no chance for rust if you keep the truck long term (not so w/ the TRX) - OH & you’ll be able to do all that for $15-20k less, throw in the 37” factory tire option & it’s icing on the cake

this is all fairly factual & a reasonable assessment of the potential performance delta between the gen2/gen3 Raptors & the current TRX.....& if you agree w/ all that.....follow me here....take a min to contemplate then just how badly a Raptor-R w/ the same advantages a standard gen3 raptor has over a TRX will embarrass it on or offroad.....probably for the same $$$ too

all that being said, I’m sticking w/ ecoboost, still the best bang for the buck & I don’t need a loud ass super truck, when I’m picking up the kids i already get looks from the other parents in their Pilots, Volvos, & vanilla 1/2 tons on 20”s pulling up in this

ford is giving us everything people are asking for, better interior, 37's, multi-link, v8 in the works, and people are still complaining.

Because they severely beat the 2021 F150 with an ugly stick, then made a Raptor out of it.

It may be technically good and mechanically competent, but now you gotta put a bag over her head and ignore her constant farting noises.

My first reaction was that I didn't like the front end. But then I watched the videos a couple of times and saw some photos of it in black and that dark matter blue and my option has changed. The more you look at it the better looking it gets, as it has a modern look to it that just takes time to adjust to.

I don't think it's a total bust as the thread title says, as the interior is a huge improvement, additional suspension travel, bigger shocks (3.1" vs 3.0" with larger shafts), 37s stock!, and you know the EBV6 will have more power and TQ. It's a nice upgrade over my Gen 2. It's just not game-changing, but based on the spy shots I didn't expect it to be.

Those complaining about the lack of V8 will get their V8 in one more year. I don't think Ford was planning on a V8 but with the TRX their hands were forced. Also as others have said the majority of sales will not be the V8 but rather the V6 due to cost. While I love a V8 as much as anyone, I'm not spending $100K plus dealer add ons for one, when the V6 in my Gen 2 is more than enough for what I need and gives me 500+ miles of range on a tank.

Since I have a 2019 Gen 2, I'll wait for the refresh of the Gen 3 and when the dealer mark up fades and will probably upgrade at that time.

and yet ford will still sell the crap out of them just like with gen 2 despite all the anti v6'er

everytime time a new vehicle comes out there is often a big resilience to it. "it looks like a mix between this car and that car". but people get used to it and it grows on them and before you know it its the best looking yet.

As I see it, many of you guys want a damn drag machine. I soubt some of you ever go anywhere you even need 4X4. I see where some jack their Raptor up 4 or even 6". I suppose that is done so you can strut up and down the Boulevard in someplace like Myrtle Beach. So, you might as well sell your Raptor and run out and buy a prissy Dodge with all them horses. SMDH.
