Remember what the video delivers. Two stock pick up trucks as they are configured from the factory going head to head. In the end the Powerboost was the winner. Crying about tire size and such sounds like a Chevy guy complaining that his V-8 got smoked by an eco-boost because he doesn't have twin turbos. The bragging rights of having one of, if not the fastest production truck 0-60 with the Raptor is gone. I think the sweet part about the video is the fact on 2 of 3 races the TRX fell on its face.

If Ford lets it remain this way, it will hurt Raptor sales to some extent. We know Joe Blow and many of his friends bought a Raptor in part because it was one or or the fastest pickup truck at the time. Joe may not spend that money if it’s slower than a work truck now and not have bragging rights.

The Raptor hasn't been able to beat a Limited for a while ...

I think Ford needs to...this:

  • Raptor/Limited HO Motor
  • Powerboost
  • Raptor TOD transfer case
  • Regular cab, short bed.
  • No rear axle blocks.
  • Monochromatic paint, no chrome.

They literally have a gen-14 Lightning sitting in the parts bin, you're just not allowed to configure one.

Perhaps the Raptor losing it's comparable 0-60 value is a forgone conclusion, and Ford doesn't think it's worth pursuing (outside of the R). If the PB closed the gap as a hybrid, what's going to happen with an all electric truck?

I'm just thinking we might be going through a period where the technology for the best off road truck and the fastest on the street just can't co-exist in the same vehicle. As has been discussed, electric has the instant torque advantage, but lacks in weight and range. Maybe the Raptor overcomes this with improvements to the V6TT, or hybrid, but it may be that Ford doesn't worry about making the base Raptor faster than the standard F150 options for a while.

Agree^^^. Personally I want lighter, better suspension-handling, range, reliability, ruggedness, comfort and then power over status quo gen 2.

This all makes the most sense to me. I actually don't think Ford ever cared all that much about the Raptor having the quickest 0-60 time--they simply gave it more power to make up for the larger tires and because they needed to be able to market the flagship F150 with the highest power figures.

I think they would have been content with that until the rednecks at Ram pulled the only party trick they have by stuffing a big motor in a half-ton pickup, at which point Ford realized they had to defend the Raptor's market share. That's how we end up with two Raptors for the third generation--the regular one that is meant to continue the 'mission', and the R model to counter the TRX.

Seems kind of like how Apple resisted making large screen iPhones for years, but finally had to give in and release the iPhone 6+ with a big screen because the competition eventually forced their hand.

I kinda just realized again....what ******** MORONS the marketing/engineering/branding people are at Daimler Chrysler Mopar Dodge Ram fiat blah blah who partly owns us now motor works

the TRX ISNT a 1/2 ton....it’s on its own frame/chassis & weighs 6500-6700 lbs....a friggin power wagon already weighs 7000lbs - what in the actual F**K was Ram thinking really? Just hellcatify the power wagon & save $$$$$

they don’t “engineer” sh*t compared to most manufacturers

Just reminding myself again how bunk most of their crap is
