2020 4runner, buyers remorse

I have a wife and three kids, the third row option in the 4runner comes in real handy. Kids running three wide in the back seat leads to arguments and fights.

We also will use vehicle to tow boat and crew long distances, which makes the extra interior room helpful as well. But I am considering making them suck it up in order to keep thier dear old dad happy

Yeah that’s a tough one! The problem with the Toyota for me is always the tech. Even in the Tacoma and the 4Runner fully loaded the tech is just meh. The vehicles are fantastic, last forever, and capable off road, but I just know I’d get bored of the basic interior after awhile.

Have you been inside a gen 2 screw? The space is noticeably roomier than other trucks, pry because raps are wider than average pickups even if it’s only centimeters etc.

Buy a raptor, invest in a quality tonneau cover for all your gear and you’ll come back with a huge grin on your face as you blow past 30 year old men in their 8 inch lifted 2010 Silverados with 35x22-44 wheel setup, windows rolled down listening to Kenny Chesney thinking they are BJ Baldwin. It’s a good time.

The Ford SCREW cab is very roomy. But it’s the same cab that’s on any F-150 or Superduty truck today. The Raptor track is where the width is at and the bed panels and front fenders and front end are all Raptor only. It’s a nice beast, roomy, quick, nice interior features and fairly nimble for a fat and heavy truck.

So are you thinking harder? Lol

She is hard on cars. I compel her to maintain them, but she has never washed a car. ever. Never cleaned the inside of one either, until she buys another one.

won't really check the " off road " box

nope it definitely isn't our family off roader lol, but you don't need one when you get a Raptor.

I'm not sure what rebates are like down in your area but up here in Canada, dealers are offering 10K CAD (7K USD) off of new Raptors... that really makes it worth looking at. or you could buy a Gen 1? there's a few really nice ones on here FS.

I think it is a common trait among a large percentage of human females. It’s a survival strategy.

There was a canine study on common dog problem solving between wolves and domestic dog breeds in which the dogs would be given a scenario to resolve, like getting to food but behind some obstacle. The wolves would continue to attempt to resolve the problem, even in futility and do it far longer. The domestic dogs would give up and attempt to get human intervention far sooner.

Applying this analogy to my wife, I know that she’s trying to get me to intervene and clean her car. I already do maintenance items - brakes, minor stuff. So, we have the cleaning stuff I use for my bikes and truck in plain view in the garage. sometimes we stare at each other, then she’ll look at the cleaning supplies, then me, then the cleaning supplies, then me... I just tilt my head and

If I don’t offer to detail her car, she will just have the detail people she has used that come by her office, do it up. So that’s 40-60 bucks. But then when I do it, she may complain that I’m out there for hours cleaning vehicles. Almost a no win.

The focus on this thread is currently more on why I had considered both or the comparison between the two, as opposed to best ways to trade in/sell a recently purchased new car, which is more what I was going for.

I agree the raptor is way more vehicle than the 4runner. No argument here. But I happen to know folks who considered the 4runner, as well as a Jeep wrangler, also a tacoma, and the raptor. I think there is a certain persona with those type of vehicles that appeals to a personality type.

I've had pickup trucks most of my life, but lately have been driving SUVs since they are a tad more family friendly. Also have a 4x8 utility trailer, so the bed isn't that big of a deal. But you can't really compare to the performance of the raptor, and really that is what I am interested in.

I have considered the explorer ST, but I want something that can take me off the beaten path more than an explorer can offer. Maybe with the new bronco coming out in the next few months, assuming they have a Ford performance version, could check the boxes that the 4runner doesn't for me, but only time will tell.

New guy to this forum, just wanted to introduce myself, also to get a dialogue going about trade in of newer cars, not really about getting beat up for how the 4runner compares to the raptor.

You lose a nice chunk of dollars, dealer wins. That’s the beginning and end of that dialogue unfortunately. No way to sugar coat it.

It’s your financial decision though.

The 5.7 L V8 tundra engine and a 8 or 10 speed transmission would have solved all my "problems". Oh well, nothing is perfect i guess.

The new tundra should be out late 2021 to early 2022. My buddy thinks it may get the new Lexus 570 engine as an option. That would be a nice truck with a 3.5 V-6 twin turbo.
