Picked up a jb4 rocking map 3 with 93oct, awe 2fg and spd turbo adapters. Feels good compared to stock, no dyno numbers as closest shop to me didn’t have time when they were putting the jb4 and adapters on. One of these days I’ll head back and do a few pulls.

Waiting on Cobb to come out with 19 support along with a tranny tune.

Are the spd turbo adapters worth it?

Coming from the diesel world I would never consider a tune that doesn't include trans tuning unless you want trans problems. Edge products did this on the 03-07 6.0l powerstroke/torqshift. 75-100hp tunes with no trans tuning...all kinds of issues. Then the real tuners did custom trans tuning with the increase in power and the trans shifted great and had no issues. I have heard great things about cobb...but until they have trans tuning I wouldn't even consider it. I was on the fence on which tune I was going to get on my 19, and now I know I will go with MPT.

Although I cannot comment on COBB or MPT tunes personally, I know that we have the complete ability to tune all GEN 2 raptors engine and transmission as a pair regardless of build date. The white Raptor below came into our shop driven straight off the dealership lot. We then installed a Whipple CAI, Whipple IC, Turbosmart SP-550's @.028, and a full dyno tune. We eliminate the logic of the truck skipping gears in all situations, and change schedules of shifting to keep the truck from lugging and hunting for 9th and 10th prematurely. We also can eliminate the auto stop start at request.

In pure technical terms, the Cobb tune results in slightly more power as seen in the data. However, in the “feels” terms, the MPT will feel better because they include their trans shifting tune as well. When Cobb finally(?) gets their knowledge base filled in on the trans tuning, I’m confident their’s will be as good or better in the “feels” terms. That said, either tuning solution will deliver more power with a dyno tune by your favorite shop.
There’s no magic or special techniques in tuning a turbo (or any) engine for power output. Every situation is a compromise in power vs longevity. Pick your poison. Power or longevity. You can’t have both to the max. When you opt for more power, the longevity will suffer somewhat... it’s all in your perspective and pocketbook.

GUY - why you telling people a tune and/or making more power on ANY VEHICLE WILL REDUCE LONGEVITY???!? That is such a load of horse shit, you have NO WAY of proving any of that for one, secondly there are legitimately MILLIONS of people w/ tuned vehicles who have never had an issue, or quite the opposite, have reliable long term DD's. See, most people that would even go down the road of modifying/tuning their vehicle for performance are already of the "gearhead/mechanical" mindset of trying to keep their vehicle in tip top running condition. On the other hand MASSIVE amounts of people buy new vehicles & never do a damn lick of preventative/extra maintenance wait til the last second for an oil change but have a "stock" vehicle - seriously doubt they're better off.

Personally? Well, my REAL WORLD personal experience is EVERY SINGLE vehicle I've ever had tuned (& all were custom dyno tuned w/ street tune behind the wheel after) I've driven over 100k miles & past the warranty period other than my Z06 simply because I do not drive it as much & its a toy - but that MF'er is strong as hell & I'd bet anything you could flog the shit outta it for 10 years @ 15k a year & it wouldn't miss a beat.

You could say - anyone that mods/tunes a vehicle haphazardly & doesn't maintain it or pay attention to any changes in care/maintenance that may come along w/ certain mods/tune COULD be sacrificing longevity, but to say it unequivocally is pure nonsense.

I have mentioned/questioned this previously on the Forum.....in my past experience when you're talking a tune only in an auto tranny car (especially in non-FI engines) the biggest SOTP gains in performance are in the tranny tune more than the engine tuning. And with a 10 speed? No thanks. Better make sure that TCM/tranny tune is matched well to the changes that have been done to timing/spark/power etc. - ESPECIALLY in a tt vehicle like the Raptor when you could be adding +100hp @ the crank...
