2019 Raptor oil change

Another point to maybe consider is that the Gen2 Raptors have both direct injection and multiport injection. This may lead to less buildup on the valves and why oil selection by volatility may not be as important.

Not to mention why catch cans are also not needed on these engines.

Hi Guys pretty new on the forum, just did my oil change at 5k on my new 2019 I decided to go with AMS oil and I like it. I was having some issues were the truck would die when you would put the pedal to the metal and I would get a oil pressure warning on my dash board I would turn the truck up again and everything normal, I’ve read on here it’s a common issue I changed the oil and truck is running great!

I have a 2017 and had the same issue. Had the cam phasers changed out, got it back, than the oil pressure light came on, followed by a loss of power. Did it 2-3 time over a few weeks and everytime I restarted it the problem went away. Took it in and they told me the high pressure oil pump is going bad. Just FYI

Not real sure about that because I don't want any oil in my intercooler or throttle body or mass air flow sensor etc.

So I installed a complete catch can system.

The back of the valves are now cleaned because it has port injection but that's about it.

To each their own.

Mobil 1 is no longer a full synthetic...



“Mobil sued Castrol for calling their oil a full synthetic. Which according to Mobil it wasnt a full synthetic like M1 since its not made from a Group IV base stock.

They lost the case, so they decided to start using the cheaper base stock just like Castrol,pennzoil etc. Why make a real synthetic that costs you more money to make then the competition who is charging the same price for their fake synthetic?

German Castrol Syntec 0w-30, Amsoil, redline are some of the few remaining TRUE synthetics( Group IV). The other Castrol syntecs, penzzoil platinum and now Mobile 1 are not TRUE synthetics. They are hydrolocked Group III oils.”

I’ve been driving my truck pretty aggressive ever since I change the oil and it’s been running strong hopefully it keeps like that. I had spoke to a service advisor at one of the ford dealers here in the area and he did say it was common so I guess I’ll be changing the oil every 5k to avoid these issues. Other than that truck is everything i though it would be worth every penny!

It’s in the updated supplemental manual for the 2019 Raptor, which has the same engine as the 2017 and 2018.

Anyone know why Ford changed the Raptor supplement to “recommended” full synthetic? My 2019 was manufactured 12/2018 and I purchased it 02/2019 so it came with a supplement that says on the back cover “September 2018 first printing” and in that supplement it says “Motor oil (U.S. and Mexico): Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP.” There is a second supplement that you can download from the Ford website that says “March 2019 Second Printing” on the back cover and lists “Recommended motor oil (U.S.): Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil XO-5W30-QFS”

So the difference is the first printing in 2018 says “Motor Oil” and lists a synthetic blend. The second printing in 2019 says “Recommended motor oil” and lists a full synthetic. Any idea why the change?

I asked a Ford service advisor and his response was “hmmm, didn’t know it changed”. Then went on to say they use a synthetic blend in all ecoboost engines including the H.O. unless a full synthetic is asked for. He asked do you tow a lot? Let it idle a lot (hours)? If no then save your money and go with the blend and recommended a change in the spring and fall because we get sub zero winters and above 100 degree hot summers which comes out to be 5-6k anyways for me.

Just wondering why the wording and recommendation changed.

I was wondering the same exact thing... I picked up my Raptor in March and also had the first printing. I actually wanted to start a separate thread. Not only did the oil change from semi to full synthetic, but the coolant changed from orange to yellow.
