Has anyone actually had a truck go into proper limp mode because of this the shocks? This seems fishy.

LMAO...Never seen an issue with shocks stranding people. It's a silly concern but I agree it's your ride and your worry and you should address all your concerns. Are you considering run flat tires, ECU or TCU delete? Do you carry spare ujoints? Curious if you have spare parts that are far more likely to fail and strand you? How far do you take it? Genuinely curious as worrying about shocks stranding you is so far out in left field from reported problems it's a whole new thought process I've never considered.
I see nerves have been struck.
Go flex your epeen somewhere else, and relax. I posted a topic based on my concern, not yours or someone else's and I don't particularly care or need your opinion for your rig, or how you spend your $. This was based off things I could address easily, and tagged on the run IF something were to happen. Anyone who has spent any time in the backwoods understands that anything can happen, at any time, and the best thing anyone can do is prevent what you can, and fix what you can, when it breaks.
The questions have been answered, a $400 insurance policy is easy enough for me and is something I personally see worth having in my glove box. Booth9999 gave me some things I can read on, and I intend on doing just that.
