2019 Ford Raptor - Accident Damage Question

Hi All,

I was in an accident in my 2019 Raptor last week. Not my fault. I started the claim process through my insurance. My local repair shop (not who insurance company wants me to go to) estimated damage at $44k. They did not tear down the vehicle or hook it to a diagnostic to assess any mechanical or electrical damage that may not be easily seen yet. My insurance company's adjuster (not independent) estimated repair at $23k. Some of the major items are a bent frame, damaged fire wall, and a handful of airbags that deployed. My insurance says that the firewall can be fixed/replaced for $700 and my shop says Ford Manufacturer Recommendation is to replace the entire cab ($12k +-0)

Does anyone know if the manufacturer recommends the firewall is able to replaced without replacing the cab?

While you are free to have any shop repair your vehicle, I suggest using a shop your insurance recommends. This way if the truck does get repaired and something comes up related to repairs the insurance company can go after the shop. Otherwise, if the shop doesn't stand behind their work you could be SOL. My shop stands behind our work for as long as you own the vehicle, regardless of the insurance companies policy. That being said, sounds like a rough hit. I think insurance is low and without the shop doing a tear down and just guessing, I think they are high. But without being involved, I can only offer speculation and no real help.

Glad you’re ok. The bent frame isn’t a car/truck death sentence it used to be. The Rap frame is in sections that can be replaced.

For this kind of hit, I’m probably going to be a little more careful about choosing a shop. I want a craftsman doing the work, someone who sweats the details and leans strongly toward perfectionism. If the insurance company balks - tough $hit. body shop says this is what it needs to repair the vehicle to return it to the proper and safe condition. I want it right, and right /= cheap.

I'm just saying, I don't trust a shop throwing out numbers that high without a tear-down first. Sounds like they are trying to get rid of the truck so they don't have to work on it. I could be wrong though. Either way, Insurance has final say.

I'd have to call a ford dealership to ask what repair procedures are but based off the estimating system, the whole cab would have to be replaced. But it depends on how badly damaged the firewall is. My recommendation, if the truck doesn't total and you wish it would, is to trade it in as soon as you get it back. Try to beat the carfax report.

You need to absolutely be compensated for diminished value as well.

No right minded buyer would purchase that truck even after it was repaired.

Mine was in an accident. Not as bad as yours, but the rear bumper/tow hooks were bent and as a result the frame was bent a little.

The shop I chose coincidentally happened to be the same one that the insurance uses (and many insurance companies use them). The shop is a national chain, and are very reputable and have locations that specialize in Raptor aluminum frames.

anyway, they recommended the frame be replaced as well as the rear bumper. Total cost came out to $26k.

sounds like in your case it will be frame plus cab, so it will likely be at least $40k.
Whatever estimate the adjuster gave is only prelim, and once the repair starts, the shop will most definitely send the insurance a supplemental bill.

At this level, I would be surprised if the insurance Company doesn’t total it, since the repair will likely be more than 50% of the value.

Sounds like its a constructive total loss. I doubt you will be happy with the truck no matter who repairs. Force agent to represent your interests.
