Hi all,

I was washing/detailing the truck today, when i noticed multiple small rust dots, biggest is 2-3 mm but i can notice them. All on the paint on the tailgate. I find it pretty strange that there are small rust spots on the paint, this thing is new and almost always parked inside too!
Anyone else experience this?

Is your truck white? White definitely will show the "rail dust"/environmental accumulation of shit on your truck.

There's a fantastic remover that I've used over the years, called Iron X (https://www.autogeek.net/carpro-iron-x-cleaner.html?productid=carpro-iron-x-cleaner&channelid=BIZRA). Go for it. Comes right off. Claybar works as well. Then a nice reseal with a good wax (assuming you're not ceramic coated).

Iron X works wonders. Love watching that stuff do it's job lol

Mine had the same surface rust spots from transport as well, white Raptor. It was all removed when we did paint correction before coating.

On your issue with rock chips, coating may not help 100%. I had a few on my painted front bumper, ended up repainted and 3M paint protecting the front. The rest of the truck has no issues with avoiding scratches and such. My guys that do coatings told me that for large rocks that hit the front it can cause it to chip due to the level of impact. It would be worse had I had not coated. I am a bit OCD so any little scratch or chip bugs the shit out of me. No worries now after paint protection the front.
