2018 or 2019 Raptor

I was in the same position as you when I purchased my 18. I wanted Leadfoot, and would have gone with the 19 if it was available. It made that much difference to me. Therefore I went with the 18.

I wish they had Leadfoot for 2019, but the Performance Blue is a good alternative plus happy with the upgrades that came with the 2019

No doubt the upgrades are nice. No debating that. For me though, the color trumped them. I would have always looked at the Leadfoot and wished I had bought it.

From what Car and Driver shared, the 20 has a significant mechanical upgrade. No more 3.5.........

Do you have a link? Because if you're talking about the same article I read, that's not at all what C/D said. So either you have a new article or a serious reading comprehension issue.

Yeah that’s the big rumor, will it get the GT500 engine. I think there is a good chance you see it in the Raptor, but I would also bet they keep the 3.5 as the standard engine and offer the SC engine as an upgrade option. An upgrade that would most likely push the Raptor up to and over 80k. Just a feeling on my part.

Maybe. Ford ran the 5.4 as a base engine and the 6.2 as optional engine once upon a time. I don't recall there being a huge price adder to step up. If the 3.5 exists, I can't imagine an MSRP increase of more than $7k - $8k. Probably would fall in line with the current super duty gas versus diesel pricing.

I'm fairly certain they replaced the 5.4 with the 6.2, it wasn't an option. I don't think the raptor has ever had an engine option.

Back to the OP’s question... new 18’ or 19’.

For $5k difference, the 19’ is without a doubt the better buy for at least 2 reasons.

1. The $5k difference will always exists (all else equal... options, mileage, condition, etc), and the gap may even grow with greater appeal/preference for the 19’s upgrades on the used market. In short... the new 18’ will deprecate at a faster rate than a new 19’. There are many articles cautioning car buyers against taking the bait on previous model year discounts.

2. The upgrades are well worth $5k.

Shocks - huge deal
Emergency Breaking - huge deal
Recaros/ Blue Accent - huge deal
Better Looking Wheels (beadlocks, and std) - huge deal
Trail control - if your in to that
Enhanced Gauge Cluster Detail - a small but respectable improvement
Transmission Behavior - no clunky shifts - pretty big deal

I have only test driven a 2018, but my 2019 feels much more solid not as floaty. The 2018 felt like it would hop around on certain bumps, my 19 doesn’t although it’s a bit stiffer overall. There is minimal roll in the 19 when you corner compared to the 18 and the transmission is MUCH smoother. Especially around town. The 18 was clunky IMO.
The Recaro package also helps the truck feel much more special from the inside.
